Dr. Laura A. Watkins

Laura Watkins, MD, is a pediatric critical care intensivist and has a broad clinical background. She is certified in pediatric critical care and pediatrics by the American Academy of Pediatrics, internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, nuclear medicine, and general ultrasonography by the Romanian Ministry of Health, and is a testamur of the American Board of Echocardiography. She received her medical degree from Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania, and completed a nuclear medicine residency at Clinical University Hospital and Clinical Military Hospital in Bucharest, Romania; a combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency at University of Buffalo, New York; and a pediatric critical care fellowship at University of Pittsburgh. She is an expert in point of care ultrasound use in the pediatric critical care unit and has taught extensively on the topic at regional and national conferences. Her research interests are in education, point of care applications to improve clinical outcomes of sepsis, pulmonary diseases, and abdominal emergencies. She is also interested in quality improvement and patient safety.
