Overview
Dr. Manar Shmais is a gastroenterologist who specializes in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) - which includes both ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease - affecting adult patients ages 18 and older. In addition to IBD, she also treats general gastrointestinal illnesses, as well as microscopic colitis. Dr. Shmais provides compassionate medical care, treating each patient as a whole and not solely focusing on his or her GI disease. Her mission is to help her IBD patients achieve remission and to prioritize quality of life as part of their care. Dr. Shmais is an assistant professor with the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Department of Internal Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. She is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association; American College of Gastroenterology; and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. She is also an external collaborator in research with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
