Dr. Gould joined Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin as the chief of general surgery (now known as minimally invasive and gastrointestinal surgery) in 2011 after nine years in practice at the University of Wisconsin. He is currently professor of surgery and he holds the Walker Endowed Chair in General Surgery at the Medical College. He has a national reputation as a minimally invasive foregut surgeon (specializes in the surgical treatment of diseases of the stomach and esophagus) and as a bariatric surgeon (weight loss surgery). He is frequently invited to give talks on his areas of expertise, and has published extensively on these topics as well. His research focus is on clinical outcomes in foregut surgery, innovation and the development of new surgical devices and technologies, and surgical skills training through simulation. I have a PhD in pathobiology and molecular medicine with a particular interest in the hormonal changes induced after bariatric surgery that are responsible not only for sustained weight loss but also improve multiple medical problems, including type 2 diabetes.
