Meagan DelBaggio Fernandez, DO, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained pediatric orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialty certification in orthopaedic sports medicine. Dr. Fernandez is the appointed section chief of Pediatric Orthopaedics for Geisinger. As the only surgeon in the region who is board certified in pediatric orthopaedics and subspecialty certified in orthopaedic sports medicine, she brings a unique skill set to treat growing athletes in our region.|Dr. Fernandez graduated cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh, where she played Division I basketball and was a Bell Atlantic scholar athlete. She earned her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency at UPMC Pinnacle Health Hospital. Dr. Fernandez joined Geisinger’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2011 after completing her fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.|Her clinical interests include pediatric sports medicine, scoliosis, trauma and general pediatric orthopaedics. Dr. Fernandez’s philosophy of individualizing care for her growing patients has won her the hearts of parents across Pennsylvania.|Dr. Fernandez has authored numerous scientific articles and book chapters and presents nationally and internationally on her unique subspecialty. She has been selected as an emerging leader by the American Orthopaedic Association for three consecutive years from 2018 through 2020.|Dr. Fernandez is actively involved in the education of future physicians as she conducts clinical exams for surgeons applying for board certification and is an item writer for the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery board exams. She has held a faculty position at the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine for the past two years.
