Overview
I have learned through my experience and training that the health care system can be overwhelming and complex. My goal as a provider is to help my patients feel seen, heard, and supported. In the hospital setting, I see patients with urgent or emergent neurologic conditions, including stroke, seizures, headache, confusion, or any other new or worsening neurologic symptoms. My outpatient practice focuses largely on post-hospital stroke care and other vascular neurologic conditions, such as moyamoya disease, cervical artery dissection, or cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. I am privileged to be in a position to help my patients understand and digest the complexity of their medical care and work with them as an ally to navigate their recovery or treatment plan.

Clinical research consists of overseeing clinical studies of patients undergoing new treatments and therapies, and publishing articles in peer reviewed medical journals. Providers who actively participate in clinical research are generally at the forefront of the fields and aware of the most up-to-date advances in treatments for their patients.

I am a neurologist and cancer doctor who treats brain tumors and researches ways to improve quality of life for brain tumor patients. As a college student, I thought I was going to be a scientist, but fell in love with studying the brain and its inner workings. I enjoy being at Duke, because I work with some of the top clinicians and researchers in the field, and a generous and warm-hearted staff that helps patients and their loved ones through treatment. At Duke, we have many options, including clinical trials, advanced medications, and surgical options, that we can offer patients to get them to a better quality of life with fewer or no seizures. In sleep disorders, I see many patients with sleep apnea and have a passion for treating individuals with narcolepsy. My philosophy is that I want patients to be aware of all the different treatment options that they have available this them. Together, we come up with what I, the patient, and the family think is the best approach for the individual. This way, we can individualize the treatment for each person. It is very gratifying for me to see patients doing so much better with the appropriate medications and pursuing the dreams they have and doing the things they really want to do.
