
Overview
Dr. Rachel Torok is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology. She specializes in noninvasive imaging (transthoracic echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, and fetal echocardiography), inpatient pediatric cardiology care, and aortopathy in children.Dr. Torok earned both her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees at The Pennsylvania State University, followed by pediatric residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship training at Duke University. During her fellowship, she received an NIH K-12 award for her translational research investigating the molecular mechanisms of thoracic aortic aneurysms, and she stayed on as faculty as the Director of the Duke Pediatric Heart Center Marfan/Aortopathy Clinic as well as the Director of Inpatient Pediatric Cardiology at Duke until her move to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in May of 2020. She now serves as the Director of the Pediatric Connective Tissue Disease/Aortopathy Clinic, one of the four core pediatric cardiology inpatient hospitalists, and a member of the noninvasive imaging and fetal teams at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Laura Jean Olivieri, MD, is a board-certified Pediatric Cardiologist and the Director of Noninvasive Cardiac Imaging at Children's Hospital Pittsburgh, and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at University of Pittsburgh. She graduated from University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at Brown University in Providence, RI, where she also was invited to stay for a chief year. She is most interested in improving image acquisition using MRI and echocardiographic in 3D printing of heart models and has compiled a successful grant portfolio to that end.She also serves as Principal Investigator for an R01 to investigate application of cardiac MRI and Interventional Cardiac Magnetic Resonance on the care of pediatric heart transplant patients. This is a 4.5 million dollar, 5-year contract aimed at using CMR to guide interventional cardiac catheterization procedures, using less sedation for diagnostic CMR procedures and to advance diagnostic CMR capabilities to use less invasive testing.
