A native Houstonian, Dr. Raj Shani received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston where he was nominated for the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He then completed his orthopedic residency at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. This was followed by his sports medicine fellowship, focusing on surgery of the knee, shoulder and ankle, at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. His research, teaching and clinical activity have earned Dr. Klineberg an international reputation in spinal deformity surgery. Author of over then 300 publications and book chapters, he also edited Adult Lumbar Scoliosis, A Clinical Guide to Diagnosis and Management and is a principal or co-principal investigator for more than a half-dozen clinical studies. His major research interests are enhancement of spinal fusion with stem cells and proteins and spinal deformity and outcomes. He serves on the board of directors of the Scoliosis Research Society and on the executive committee of the International Spine Study Group. He is also the North American Chair of AO Spine, a global academic community that promotes excellence in education, research, patient care and outcomes.
