Overview
Dr. Raul Mandler received his medical degree with honors from the University of Buenos Aires Facultad de Medicina, in Argentina. After moving to the United States, he performed his residency at the Cleveland Clinic, in Cleveland, OH. There, he received the International Travel Fellowship Award, given to a distinguished clinical researcher. He visited Oxford University (UK), La Salpêtrière Hospital (France), and worked at the Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel). Later, he became the first neuroimmunology Fellow of the Cleveland Clinic and then a Senior Staff Fellow at the National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS/NIH), where he dedicated close to half a decade to neuroimmunology and neurophysiology clinical research. Dr. Mandler was appointed Assistant Professor of Neurology and Neurosciences at the University of New Mexico, where he obtained tenure as an Associate Professor of Medicine. During this time, Dr. Mandler was awarded a full year sabbatical at the University of California. He moved with his family to Washington, D.C., to become a Professor of Neurology at the George Washington University. There, he continued his medical practice and served as the Director for the MS/ALSA clinics. Dr. Mandler now holds a private practice in North Bethesda where he specializes in Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, EMG, Peripheral Neuropathies, Headaches, and General Clinical Neurology. Through NTAP, Dr. Blakeley has supported and collaborated with more than 80 laboratories and research teams across the globe enabling meaningful therapeutic development for NF1-associated neoplasms and supporting the development of an exceptional community of clinician scientists focused on NF1 via the Francis S. Collins Scholars Program in Neurofibromatosis Clinical and Translational Research. Her research and programmatic efforts are all in the service of improving outcomes for the patients with NF1, NF2, schwannomatosis, and primary brain cancer for whom she is honored to provide care.
