Overview
Dr. Raymond Kandt received his medical degree from University of Virginia School of Medicine and has been in practice for more than 40 years. Throughout his career, his main goal has been the development of skills to care for patients and to perform research that advances medical knowledge. Since 2016, he has been an adult neurohospitalist. He completed a pediatric residency, a neurology residency, and a fellowship in developmental pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Kandt has served on the teaching faculties of the University of Michigan, Duke University, and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (WFBMC). He was then in private practice adult and pediatric neurology for 14 years after which he returned to WFBMC where he continued both adult and pediatric neurology as a professor of both neurology and pediatrics. Academic neurology has been an exciting part of his career, including a 4-year post with the NIH Center for Research Resources. He performed research in various aspects of neurology including neurocutaneous disorders, leading to the localization of the second gene for tuberous sclerosis, TSC2, to chromosome 16. He has always enjoyed teaching and interacting with residents, and he was the first neurologist to receive the teaching award from the pediatric residents at Duke University Medical Center. Later, he received the neurology-faculty teaching award from the neurology house staff at WFBMC.
