Overview
I did not grow up in a family of physicians. A lot of my family members are educators and musicians. But I had a significant medical condition requiring cardiac surgery when I was 8 years old. My family doctor, a jack-of-all-trades old time physician, was the one who picked up my cardiac murmur that would require surgery. I still remember how well cared for I felt both before the surgery and afterwards. I believe the excellent care my Family Physician and team of cardiac doctors and nurses gave to me played a significant role in my desire to become a compassionate physician. What I want my patients to know about me:I feel very blessed to have been given the ability and opportunity to be a Physician. While very challenging, the privilege to be a trusted counsel of patient's health problems far outweigh the stressors. I view myself as your educated Health Advisor, offering my opinion, diagnosis and treatment options. My recommendation will be what's in the best interest of the patient, having no stock or investments influence. In 2015, I cut back my clinical practice to take on a role as Associate Medical Director. My team helps our WellSpan providers to deliver consistent, quality care to our region. What I do when I'm not seeing patients:I cherish my time off to spend time with my family. My loving wife Karen is a 6th grade Catholic school teacher. My 3 kids (Nick, grad school; Emily, college; Alex, high school) have been the center of our family's activities for years, mainly in music and sports. I've coached many of their youth teams, including Alex's current AAU basketball team, and still play basketball (I played for 2 years at LVC), but my boys are much better than me now. I rejuvenate with daily devotions, meet regularly with neighborhood Christian men's group, and love our family vacations to the beach and cabin.
