Dr. Ryan Hutten

Ryan Hutten, MD, is a UW Health radiation oncologist (cancer doctor). He’s also a clinical assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Radiation Medicine.Using advanced radiation techniques, Dr. Hutten cares for people with all types of cancer, including cancer of the prostate, breast, lung and gastrointestinal tract (digestive system).One of his specialties is treating prostate cancer. Dr. Hutten performs brachytherapy, a type of internal radiation in which he places tiny capsules containing radiation in or near the prostate tumor. Depending on the patient’s needs, he delivers brachytherapy in combination with external radiation or alone.Understanding that a cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming, Dr. Hutten takes time to talk with his patients and get to know them. He carefully explains their diagnosis, listens to their concerns and answers questions. He also outlines treatment options. Whether the patient chooses radiation therapy or other treatments, Dr. Hutten helps patients choose a care plan that best fits their personal goals.In addition to patient care, Dr. Hutten researches better ways to treat cancer with radiation and imaging studies.During his free time, Dr. Hutten enjoys playing and watching soccer, hiking and skiing.I work to identify the best possible ways to attack my patients’ cancer.

His clinical expertise encompasses Prostate Cancer, Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC), Lung Cancer, Throat Cancer, and Prostatectomy.

He is actively involved in clinical research, co-authoring 30 peer reviewed articles.
