A Houston native, Dr. Wyatt Ramey earned his undergraduate degree in microbiology from the University of Georgia and his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Neb. He completed his residency in neurosurgery and a fellowship in complex spine neurosurgery at Banner-University Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz., and a fellowship in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery at The Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle. Board certified in neurosurgery, Dr. Ramey treats patients ages 18 and older. His primary clinical interests include adult spine deformity, complex spine revision surgery, degenerative disc disease and herniation, scoliosis, spinal stenosis and spine and brain oncology. His practice philosophy centers on a compassionate, thoughtful, multidisciplinary approach. He always considers a non-operative approach first, reserving surgery only for when it is necessary. His clinical research interests include biomarkers for cerebral vasospasm and translational research for patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage, as well as a number of clinical trials for the treatment of brain aneurysms. His research studies focus on multi-modality assessments of cognitive functions combining intracranial recordings, functional MRI and direct cortical stimulation. He is funded by multiple grants from the NIH and the NSF to study and modulate brain networks involved in language, memory, prefrontal control and epilepsy. Most recently, he received a UO1 grant from the NIH BRAIN initiative, to probe the mechanisms of reading in the human brain. Dr. Tandon is a member of the Texas Medical Association, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Organization of Human Brain Mapping, Society for Neuroscience, and the American Epilepsy Society. He is a member of the editorial board of Operative Neurosurgery and an ad hoc reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals. He routinely serves as a reviewer on NIH study sections.
