Overview
I have a special interest in the use of surgical lasers for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and kidney stones. I am specialized in endourology, which focuses on using scopes to perform surgery, oftentimes without the need for incisions. I perform HoLEP for BPH and find this to be an especially rewarding part of my practice. I look forward to helping patients understand their condition, and I provide patients with evidence-based treatment options that best fit with their goals and beliefs. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and children, cooking, hiking, BBQ, outdoor concerts, and reading.

I completed my training at the University of North Carolina in 1983 and was an American Urological Association Scholar (1983-1985) in the Division of Mineral Metabolism at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas. In 1993, I returned to North Carolina as professor of urological surgery and director of the Duke Comprehensive Kidney Stone Center.
