Overview
When people think about sleep disorders, they usually report getting too much or not enough sleep. That is the starting point where we work together to get to the root cause. What I have discovered in treating patients is that sleep medicine is multifactorial - you address attitudes around sleep, mental health, wellness, as well as consider other medical problems. Sleep apnea is one of the better-known sleep disorders, and the good news is that we have better technology today to treat it. It is very gratifying when patients come back and tell me how much their quality of life has improved! When I talk to patients, other less recognized sleep disorders can also be discovered and treated, such as restless leg syndrome, abnormal sleep behaviors, and narcolepsy. It is not uncommon for more than one sleep disorder to be present. When I see a patient, my aim is to to get a complete picture about their sleep so success in treatment is achieved.
