I became interested in pelvic floor disorders because of the emphasis on improving the quality of life. For most pelvic floor disorders – bladder, bowel, sexual dysfunction, or vaginal bulge – there are usually multiple treatment options with different pros and cons. Because each woman is different, I tend to teach each patient about her own pelvic floor issues, and then we collaborate to develop a treatment plan that incorporates her specific goals. I am actively involved in research because I think that is the way that we will develop better treatment options for women.
