Alison C. Tribble, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. She is also the medical director of the Pediatric Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP), a hospital program that works to optimize antimicrobial use throughout Mott to improve outcomes from infections and to minimize the negative impact of antibiotics, such as adverse reactions and development of antimicrobial resistance.Dr. Tribble received her bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and her medical degree from Duke University. She trained in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Following residency, she worked as a pediatric hospitalist and then served as Pediatric Chief Resident at Hopkins. She completed fellowship training in pediatric infectious diseases at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and joined the faculty at the University of Michigan in 2015.In addition to leading the pediatric ASP, Dr. Tribble conducts research to better understand patterns of antibiotic use in children. She also studies ways to improve this use, often through the efforts of the ASP or through novel microbiology techniques, such as rapid identification of blood culture pathogens.Dr. Tribble leads Mott's participation in a national pediatric antimicrobial stewardship collaborative, SHARPS, which conducts multicenter research on antibiotic use and provides a venue for institutions to share best practices and learn from one another. She is also a co-leader of the Solutions for Patient Safety national antimicrobial stewardship initiative, which seeks to establish and expand antimicrobial stewardship efforts in children's hospitals across the country. Dr. Susan Wootton earned her medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia. She completed her residency at the University of Virginia and a fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
