Sumeet Asrani, MD, MSc is the Chief of Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at the Baylor Simmons Transplant Institute in Dallas. Prior to moving to Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, in Dallas, he practiced at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas serving in several leadership positions including the Executive Committee of the Medical Board and seven years as Chairman of the Department of General Surgery. He has been named one of the ""Best Doctors in Dallas"" by D Magazine perennially since 2001. He has also been recognized as a ""Texas Super Doctor"" by Texas Monthly Magazine for the last several consecutive years. Dr. Beecherl received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas, at Austin in 1986, his Masters of Science in Anatomy from Tulane University Graduate School in 1991, and his Doctorate of Medicine from Tulane University Medical Center in 1991. Dr. Beecherl started his post-graduate training in Dallas as a surgical intern at Parkland Memorial Hospital in 1991. His last year of training was a fellowship in Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic Surgery at the Toronto General Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Beecherl returned to Dallas and was a founding partner of Southwest General Surgery Associates. In 2016 he moved to Baylor's Simmons Transplant Institute and serves as the Director of Islet Autotransplantation. Dr. Beecherl is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, and a member of Dallas County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Society, the Parkland Surgical Society, and the American Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic Association.
