Dr. Nicholas A. Sgaglione

Dr. Nicholas Sgaglione is Professor and Chair of the Northwell Health System Department of Orthopedic Surgery and at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra / Northwell. He also serves as the Senior Vice President for Orthopaedics for the Northwell Health System and Executive Director of the Northwell Orthopaedic Institute in New York. Dr. Nicholas Sgaglione has been in clinical practice for 36 years in Great Neck, New York. He graduated from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at the Southern California Orthopaedic Institute in Los Angeles.Dr. Sgaglione was elected as president of the Arthroscopy Association of North America for 2012- 2013 and served on its Board of Directors beginning in 2008. Dr. Sgaglione was elected by his peers to the American Orthopaedic Association in 2006, a prestigious national society for leadership, education and research. He serves on the Arthroscopy Association of North America Education Foundation and is the current chair of that Foundation. He has also served as the New York State delegate for the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society, International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and the New York Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons.Dr. Sgaglione has served on the Board of Trustees of the Arthroscopy Journal and is the current Chairman of the Journal Board of Trustees. He is on the editorial board of several medical journals and is the editor of three orthopaedic textbooks and more than 140 published articles and book chapters on knee, shoulder, ankle and cartilage surgery. He has given more than 1000 invited lectures and presentations in his career. Dr. Sgaglione specializes in sports medicine is the Medical Director for Hofstra University Athletics. He has served as the team orthopaedist for numerous Long Island High Schools as well as the team physician for the United States Merchant Marine Academy for the past 36 years. Dr. Sgaglione is an honorary police surgeon for the NYPD. He has served as an orthopaedic consultant to the United States Ski Team and the US Professional Golf Association. Dr. Sgaglione is also the team orthopedist and the medical director for the Major League Lacrosse, New York Lizards.
