I was born and raised in Washington, Pennsylvania. Prior to this opportunity, I was on the faculty at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville for almost nine years. I moved here for an exceptional opportunity to be on the faculty at East Tennessee state University Department of Surgery and to be the Medical Director of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at Johnson City Medical Center. It was a great chance to develop a nationally recognized rural acute care surgery program. This is such a beautiful area, and I was impressed with how friendly people were when I first interviewed. I grew up in a pre-hospital background and worked EMS myself. I love the specialty of trauma and found it was what I always came back to—helping people on their worst day. However, my biggest influence in medicine was my father. He was in the first ever paramedic class in Pennsylvania. I grew up learning how to help people, whether less fortunate than myself, sick or injured. As a provider, I most enjoy taking care of people. In trauma, we often see patients on their worst day. Helping them heal and recover is a process, and it can be awesome to see. I’ve been married to my wife for 17 years. My daughter attends University School and runs cross-country and track. My son also attends UH and plays soccer for FC Dallas Tri. We have two rescue dogs, Lucky and Simon. I coach travel soccer whenever I am able for my son’s team. Dr. Timothy Fullagar came to East Tennessee Brain & Spine Center from Colorado, where he served at the Colorado Neurologic Institute, Englewood. He received his doctorate of medicine from the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, and completed a neurosurgical residency with the University of Tennessee’s Health Science Center’s Semmes Murphey Clinic, Memphis. Board certified in neurosurgery, Dr. Fullagar has special interest in the general neurosurgical management of cervical and lumbar spine disorders, peripheral nerve conditions, and the treatment of intracranial pathology. Dr. Fullagar is known for his treatment of brain tumors. A member of the Society for Neuro-Oncology, Dr. Fullagar has participated in numerous clinical trials involving the surgical treatment of brain tumors and postoperative chemotherapy. Serving his nation with fifteen years of duty in the United States Naval Reserve, Dr. Fullagar completed his military career achieving the rank of Commander. I grew up in Kentucky and am still a huge fan of the University of Louisville sports. I came to this area to be closer to family, and I like the outdoor activities of this region. I also enjoy tennis, music, reading and photography. I am involved in several organizations, such as Little League Baseball and LASO Swim Team. I wanted to specialize in neurology because I enjoy learning about the brain. In fact, I never get tired of learning about the nervous system. As a physician, I most enjoy my interaction with patients and actually getting to know them and being a part of making their lives better. My personal philosophy for treating patients is to always listen and to treat others the way I would want to be treated.
