
Overview
An internationally recognized advanced endoscopist, Juan Carlos Bucobo, MD, FASGE is the Vice President of Gastroenterology Services for Northwell Health, the President and Executive Director of the Northwell GI Institute and IPA and a Professor of Medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Dr Bucobo is committed to developing programs of excellence in gastroenterology and ensuring the delivery of top-notch, quality care to the local communities Northwell Health serves. He is an advanced endoscopist with a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of complicated pancreaticobiliary disorders and in the resection of gastrointestinal lesions by minimally invasive, endoscopic approaches. He is committed to delivering state-of-the-art therapeutic advanced endoscopy care with compassion and sensitivity to the needs of patients and their families. Dr Bucobo is the Immediate Past President of the New York Society for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy (NYSGE), recent course director for the ASGE Post Graduate Course at ACG in Vancouver and is an active member on several national committees including the ASGE Colorectal Cancer Screening Project Advisory Council. He lectures nationally and internationally on several topics related to advanced endoscopy and on reducing healthcare disparities in gastroenterology and is an author of several peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and book chapters. Prior to joining Northwell Health, Dr Bucobo was the Assistant Dean for Clinical Outreach at Stony Brook School of Medicine, the inaugural Svetlana Koroleva Endowed Professor in Gastroenterology, President of Stony Brook Community Medical and the Chief of Endoscopy for Stony Brook Medicine.

Dr. Andrawes currently serves as Director of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, and Director of the Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Fellowship program at Staten Island University Hospital. His commitment to patient care and education is exceptional, as demonstrated by his dedication to training medical students, residents, GI fellows, and advanced endoscopy fellows. He holds regional and national recognition for his expertise in advanced therapeutic and interventional endoscopy, regularly presenting at national meetings and contributing to national gastroenterology societies. Following his advanced endoscopy fellowship under Dr. Gregory Haber at Lenox Hill Hospital in 2014, Dr. Andrawes joined Staten Island University Hospital. Within two years, he earned a strong regional reputation for managing complex endoscopic cases, leading to his appointment as Director of Endoscopy. Dr. Andrawes introduced a range of advanced procedures to Staten Island, including complex endoscopic mucosal resection, endoscopic submucosal dissection, endoscopic management of gallbladder disease, endoscopic drainage of pancreatic necrosis, peroral endoscopic myotomy, endoscopic suturing (including bariatric revisions), and closure of fistulas and perforations. He is among a select group of gastroenterologists proficient in these advanced techniques. In 2019, he established the advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship, which has graduated four fellows to date and is fully subscribed through 2025. As a dedicated educator and key clinical faculty member for the GI fellowship program, Dr. Andrawes consistently receives exemplary evaluations from trainees. He has successfully recruited two highly skilled advanced endoscopists, further enhancing the nationally recognized GI division. Dr. Andrawes thought leadership is evident in his research presentations at national meetings and his consistent promotion of scholarly activity among colleagues and fellows. He is frequently invited to serve as faculty at national advanced endoscopy courses. A distinguished leader in education, research, and clinical care, Dr. Andrawes has a strong regional and national reputation. Recognized by his peers as a trusted expert in complex endoscopic procedures, he is a recipient of the Top Doctors Award for New York.
