Overview
John D. Symbas, M.D., graduated with honors from the School of Medicine at Emory University where he also finished his undergraduate program. Dr. Symbas completed his residency at Emory University through the School of Medicine in both plastic surgery and in general surgery. He completed an oculoplastic and cosmetic fellowship at Paces Plastic Surgery in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Symbas is licensed in the state of Georgia and became board certified in 2012 by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is also a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Symbas joined the plastic surgery team at the Atlanta Plastic and Reconstructive Specialists center in October 2015. Prior to that he was an instrumental member of the team at Marietta Plastic Surgery for almost five years.
Dr. Symbas was also a decorated athlete both in high school at The Lovett School and in college at Emory University. He was named to the coveted GTE Academic All-American First Team in soccer and captained the team his senior year. He has also written and presented numerous publications on topics ranging from body contouring after bariatric surgery to acellular dermal matrix in eyelid surgery. Special interests include breast reconstruction after cancer treatment.
