I chose a career in family medicine because I enjoy providing preventative health care and disease management to all ages. My approach to patient care is that of a partnership. I advise patients that my role as a primary care physician is to educate patients on current evidence-based guidelines for preventative health and for disease management. I want to ensure that patients are able to make an educated decision regarding their health care. My ideal vision of family medicine includes providing care to three generations, where I am the primary care provider to the grandparents, the parents, and the children. Understanding the dynamics of three generations of a family allows me insight into family medical history, family social dynamics, and family emotional stressors. This insight enhances my medical decision making for each individual in the family. I am married and have two children. We have two rescue dogs who keep us very busy. I spend most of my time outside of work with my family. I do prioritize exercise for my personal health maintenance. I have been honored to have spent my entire career, since completing my residency in 1986, working in the wonderful and diverse community of Hillsborough. Family medicine was a perfect career choice for me. I love the long-term relationships with patients of all ages. I particularly enjoy women's health, and I have grown fond of geriatrics, as the patient population I care for is aging. Outside of medicine, I have three young adult children and a great husband. I am a competitive masters swimmer, a cyclist, a triathlete, and I like to cook and read. Dr. Satter is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Sitosterolemia. I believe the path to better health starts with clear communication and a commitment from both the patient and the doctor. I live my life as my father, who was also a physician, taught me. I encourage myself and my patients to realize that today is an opportunity that may not present itself tomorrow and enjoy what you have, as there are many blessings even if you don’t see them. I enjoy spending time in nature and believe it has healing powers – nature is the best “reset button” in life. I love to challenge myself with outdoor sports including running marathons, biking, hiking and yoga. Dr. Chazli is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Sitosterolemia. It is the diversity of individual human experiences, backgrounds, ethnicities, and belief systems that led me to family medicine. My own background is Korean-American. My parents are both immigrants from South Korea. I was born and grew up in the United States. I went to college in New York and then spent two years with the Peace Corps in Burkina Faso. My medical training included deeply memorable experiences from rotations through the Indian Health Service in Arizona to riding small planes to villages in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta of Western Alaska. Prior to coming to Duke, I worked in rural North Carolina. I see patients of all ages from newborn to end of life care. My interests include preventive medicine, women’s health, maternal child health and international health issues. My husband is an anthropologist and we have two young children. I’ve always enjoyed interacting with people, and I feel like it is a privilege to care for them at this level. I take pride in the fact that I can usually make people feel very comfortable. I also feel that as a physician I am able to empower my patients to take care of themselves. It’s a group effort. I really enjoy seeing children. I probably have one of the bigger pediatric populations in my practice. I enjoy seeing families and watching kids grow up. Before I started here, I was in private practice in Florida for more than five years. My wife and I moved back to the area when she was pregnant with our first child, because this is the area in which we wanted to raise a family. It’s a wonderful place for young families and children. Creating long-term relationships with families has been my goal for my primary care practice. I enjoy being able to see multiple family generations. These relationships provide insight into the challenges that family members have when dealing with medical issues. They also tend to provide clues to obstacles that may impede a patient's ability to have or maintain their wellness. I am thankful that I have been allowed the opportunity to work for Duke in my home county of Alamance. Although I love to travel, coming home to family and friends is where my heart belongs. I enjoy living in the community with my patients. My patients are not just patients, but are the people in my community that meet me in the grocery store, fix my car, cut my hair, and teach my kids. They are important people in my life and I desire to see their health thrive. Dr. Aldridge is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Sitosterolemia. I enjoy partnering with patients on lifestyle modification and managing complex medical issues using both conventional and complementary approaches. I have a special interest in mind-body medicine. I started my medical career with seven years in private practice in Green Bay, Wisconsin, providing office-based, hospital, and nursing home care. In 2002, my family and I set off for the warmer climate of North Carolina in order to live in an area with a more ethnically diverse population and a longer growing season. I joined Durham Medical Center, a part of Duke Primary Care. In 2012, I helped create the Duke Integrative Primary Care Program. Every day, I am able to have a positive impact on someone's life, form relationships, and make someone feel better. Heart disease remains the number one killer of all Americans, and I would like to change that. I practice general cardiology, women's heart health, and cardiac care for cancer patients. I see patients for coronary artery disease, heart attacks, post coronary stent bypass surgery, coronary artery bypass surgery, heart murmurs, palpitations, and rhythm disturbances. I see patients who have heart disease, and I work to prevent them from having any bad consequences of that disease. I also see patients who are having symptoms and do diagnostic work to see what cardiovascular condition they may have to explain their symptoms. I also take care of patients who either have known or suspected genetic cardiovascular disorders. Our genetics clinic is one of the only adult cardiovascular clinics in the Southeast. We take care of patients who have a variety of cardiovascular genetic disorders or who have strong family histories of heart disease and want to come in for testing. Duke has a strong collaborative approach to patient care. We provide excellent care for patients who need routine care for more common medical disorders, but we also provide a high level of subspecialty care for those who may have rarer disorders. As a non-invasive cardiologist at Triangle Heart Associates, I focus on chronic disease diagnosis and management. I work with patients who have a broad range of primary cardiac problems. Some patients don’t yet have a cardiac diagnosis and are referred here where we make the diagnosis and provide lifelong treatment. A big part of my job is educating patients. I hope when they leave the office they understand why they’re taking certain medicines and getting specific treatments. I become very close with the patients I see over a long period of time. It’s rewarding to see the impact you have on those people. It’s hard to beat Duke in the quality of care in cardiology and the breadth of services available. I grew up in a medical household. My mother was a nurse and my dad was an orthopaedic surgeon. I grew up in that atmosphere, went to the hospital with my dad and liked it. I never thought about doing anything else. My favorite part of my job is the direct, one-on-one interaction with the patients. We see them in the clinic when they come in with a problem, we do whatever testing is necessary, the procedures, and hopefully get them feeling better and doing well. Then we see them back in follow up for years and years. Seeing the full spectrum of their care is very rewarding. When a patient chooses Duke and Triangle Heart, they can be assured of the best, most up-to-date, most cutting-edge care no matter who they are or what their background is. Each patient likely will feel like they are the only patient we have. We’re very accessible and easy to reach – with the support of a major heart center. I think that’s very special. Dr. Komada is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Sitosterolemia. He is also highly rated in 14 other conditions, according to our data. What is the definition of Sitosterolemia?

Sitosterolemia is a condition in which fatty substances (lipids) from vegetable oils, nuts, and other plant-based foods accumulate in the blood and tissues. These lipids are called plant sterols (or phytosterols). Sitosterol is one of several plant sterols that accumulate in this disorder, with a blood level 30 to 100 times greater than normal. Cholesterol, a similar fatty substance found in animal products, is mildly to moderately elevated in many people with sitosterolemia. Cholesterol levels are particularly high in some affected children. However, some people with sitosterolemia have normal cholesterol levels.

When should I see a Sitosterolemia doctor near Hillsborough, NC?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Sitosterolemia doctor near Hillsborough, NC?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Sitosterolemia doctors near Hillsborough, NC?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Sitosterolemia doctors near Hillsborough, NC?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Sitosterolemia doctor near Hillsborough, NC?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Sitosterolemia doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Sitosterolemia doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Sitosterolemia doctor near Hillsborough, NC?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Sitosterolemia doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Sitosterolemia doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Sitosterolemia doctors near Hillsborough, NC?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Sitosterolemia doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Sitosterolemia doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Sitosterolemia doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
