I’m West Virginia-born and raised, where most of my family still lives. I practice medicine because I enjoy helping people in a time of need, especially children. The best part of what I do is building relationships with families. I know I’ve had a positive impact if a child’s family is glad they made the decision to come to me for care. Children are one of our most vulnerable demographics (the other is seniors), and we need to look out for them. Because many of the kids I see have a problem that’s readily addressable, I can help improve their quality of life in a meaningful way. I really enjoy working with parents, too – because as a parent myself, I understand their concerns. All children should have access to the healthcare they need. And I believe any program that improves quality of life for children, whether it’s in-school or after-school, benefits kids individually and our society as a whole. Dr. Chafin is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Acrodysostosis. His top areas of expertise are Enlarged Adenoids, Otitis, Ruptured Eardrum, and Stridor.

I grew up in the Florida panhandle and spent most of my early years of training in Florida. I did part of my training up north, but was eager to return home to Florida to practice. My husband and I enjoy spending time at the beach with our son and visiting family and friends. It’s fun! I always knew I wanted to work in the medical field with children. I thought I would become a pediatrician, but also really enjoyed doing surgery. I did an elective in pediatric ophthalmology during medical school and realized it was the best of both worlds — I get to help children see, I perform their surgery if needed, and continue to follow them as they grow up. Helping improve a child’s vision is the most rewarding job, and for most exams, we have fun playing with toys and flashlights! I am passionate about early intervention for visual problems. I serve on the board of Vision is Priceless here in Jacksonville, a non-profit who promotes vision screening to identify visual abnormalities as early as possible to start treatment. There is no greater reward than giving a child the gift of sight. International surgical mission work is very important to me. I have done international outreach in Tanzania, Kenya, Guatemala and Costa Rica.  My medical interests include: amblyopia eyelid surgery (blocked tear duct, dermoid cyst, chalazion) pediatric cataracts ptosis (droopy eyelid) strabismus I try to put parents and patients at ease in the exam room and make the exam fun. No child enjoys eye drops, but aside from that necessary aspect of the visit, we try to make the exam fun and engaging for children and their parents. I try to spend as much time as possible answering questions and fully explaining my exam findings to parents, so they leave with an understanding of what is going on with their child. I find that communicating with parents is much easier now that I have a child and can understand the parent perspective. Dr. Unkrich is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Acrodysostosis. Her top areas of expertise are Strabismus, Amblyopia, Vernal Keratoconjunctivitis, and Congenital Cataract.

My father was a health and physical education teacher who inspired my interest in the human body. I find all aspects of my specialty fascinating, but I have a particular interest in conditions that affect children. My wife and I have two children. We are a family that enjoys outdoor activities and sports. Children are our future and treating them reminds me of the best in humanity. Their innocence and potential motivate me to advocate on their behalf. I find it very rewarding to help a child overcome obstacles so they can reach their full potential. The ability to hear, taste, smell and speak is integral to the human experience. When one or more of these senses is compromised in a child, it can challenge their drive and creativity and test their family. It brings me special satisfaction to improve or restore these gifts through medical management, or in some cases, surgical intervention. In addition to the other expertises listed, Dr. Pritchett has expertise in treating:Allergic fungal sinusitisParotid tumorsSalivary stonesMicrotia/AtresiaLaryngomalaciaLymphatic malformationCongenital airway anomaliesChoanal atresiaPyriform aperature stenosisAuditory neuropathy Humans are complex creatures with physical, intellectual, spiritual and emotional needs. Practicing medicine in this context is important to me, even as a surgeon. I see a child in holistic terms, not just as my patient. Dr. Von Pritchett is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Acrodysostosis. His top areas of expertise are Hearing Loss, Infant Hearing Loss, Otitis, Myringotomy, and Adenoidectomy.

My wife says I’m a big kid myself, and I can’t disagree. As chief of the Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat) division at Nemours Children’s Clinic, Jacksonville, I try to make a big difference – not only in the lives of the children I treat, but also with their families. It’s very rewarding when we can make a big difference in the life of a child. Sometimes it’s a simple procedure, sometimes it’s complex reconstructive surgery, either way it’s great when you can do something that has a serious positive impact on a kid and the family. I really enjoy seeing a child get back to just being a child. Nemours has a singular focus on patient satisfaction – family satisfaction, really – and that’s what resonates most for me. Lots of kids have access to great healthcare because of the work we do here, and that makes me proud. For some people, surgery is like fixing a car: you find out what’s wrong, determine what you need to do, and you go in and fix it. The challenge, and the beauty, of my work at Nemours is that we don’t just deal with the patient. We’re concerned with the whole family surrounding the child, providing care to everyone in that child’s life, and doing whatever it takes to make a difference in their lives. Dr. Sprecher is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Acrodysostosis. His top areas of expertise are Enlarged Adenoids, Otitis, Tongue Tie, Laryngomalacia, and Myringotomy.

In addition to my work as an orthopedic surgeon, I help educate our next generation of physicians. I train orthopedic surgery residents during their pediatric rotations, and I am the fellowship director at Nemours, where orthopedic surgeons do extra training to learn the art and science of pediatric orthopedics. I have academic appointments at The University of Florida and The Mayo Clinic, present original research at national meetings, give lectures as an invited speaker to various medical groups, and serve on committees for multiple national orthopedic organizations. Some of the highlights of this work have been producing educational content for patients and their families that can be found on the websites of the Scoliosis Research Society, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, and Nemours’ own KidsHealth. It’s such an incredible privilege for parents to allow me to treat their children. I learned early in my orthopedic training just how amazing children are, even in the face of serious illness. Their toughness, resilience and positive attitudes inspire me to be the best doctor I can be to help them and their parents manage their conditions. I’m passionate about making a difference in children’s lives, and I’m so proud to work for Nemours. Nemours and I share mission-driven values, making sure that all children who need care have access to our services, and treating all children equally. I want to make sure all my patients receive individualized care, tailored to their specific needs. I’m passionate about learning new things, teaching others and helping all my patients, colleagues, students, assistants and friends accomplish their goals. My medical interests and expertise includes:ScoliosisSpinal DeformityIdiopathic ScoliosisNeuromuscular ScoliosisCongenital ScoliosisSyndromic ScoliosisEarly Onset ScoliosisKyphosisCerebral PalsyLeg Length DiscrepancyInfant Hip DysplasiaFractures We're doing all we can to help patients and their families understand and treat scoliosis. What is the definition of Acrodysostosis?

Acrodysostosis is an extremely rare disorder that is present at birth (congenital). It leads to problems with the bones of the hands, feet, and nose, and intellectual disability.

When should I see an Acrodysostosis doctor in Florida, US?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing an Acrodysostosis doctor in Florida, US?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Acrodysostosis doctors in Florida, US?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Acrodysostosis doctors in Florida, US?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with an Acrodysostosis doctor in Florida, US?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Acrodysostosis doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Acrodysostosis doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with an Acrodysostosis doctor in Florida, US?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Acrodysostosis doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Acrodysostosis doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Acrodysostosis doctors in Florida, US?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Acrodysostosis doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find an Acrodysostosis doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Acrodysostosis doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
