Dr. Davidson was born in Georgia in 1963. The family moved a lot, so he had the chance to grow up in Florida and Northern Virginia. After graduating from James Madison High School in Vienna, VA, he attended the University of Virginia. He enjoyed the Echols Scholar program, graduating in 1985 with a degree in Chemistry. It was then on to medical school at Duke. Medical school was interesting, but he found himself particularly fascinated whenever the lecture turned to how the topic affected the eyes or vision. After spending much of his third year of medical school at the Duke Eye Center doing research, the decision to pursue Ophthalmology was cemented. After an internship in Internal Medicine, he started training in Ophthalmology at Tulane University in New Orleans in 1991.Following his residency-training program, he moved to Phoenix in 1994, and started Chandler Eye Center in 1996.He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Association of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the Phoenix Ophthalmology Society and is a member and past president of the Arizona Ophthalmological Society. He has a special interest in refractive cataract surgery and comprehensive ophthalmology. He offers cataract surgery, laser treatments including LASIK and glaucoma procedures, upper eyelid surgery, and MIGS procedures for glaucoma. His strengths include taking the time to get to know each patient and addressing their needs. His gentle and attentive demeanor creates a good chairside manner that patients find reassuring. In addition to his formal education, he has a wealth of experience with many different types of eye conditions and diseases and he enjoys trying to find the best solution for each individual patient. He lives in Scottsdale with his wife Janice and their 2 Chihuahuas, Chico and Killer. He and his wife can often be found hiking or biking roads or trails in the Valley, the state, and the Southwest.Chandler Eye Center is a family owned practice that has been located in Chandler since 1995.  Since we are a small boutique practice we strive to go over and beyond for every  patient.  When coming to Chandler Eye Center, you will ALWAYS see Dr. Davidson not an associate or an Optometrist.  He personally handles each patient's eye needs.  Should you need surgery, you will see him every step of the way from initial evaluation to your one month post op.  Our patients matter to us and it shows!. Dr. Davidson is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD). He is also highly rated in 3 other conditions, according to our data. His clinical expertise encompasses Cataract, Glaucoma, Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis, and Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye). Dr. Davidson is board certified in Ophthalmology. What is the definition of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD)?

Macular degeneration, also known as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), is the deterioration of the part of the eye (macula) that allows for seeing clearly in the center of the field of vision, as well as the ability to see straight ahead, and is the leading cause of central vision loss among older individuals over the age of 50. Macular degeneration has two types: 1) Dry macular degeneration, and 2) Wet macular degeneration. Dry macular degeneration, also known as Non-neovascular macular degeneration, is the most common type (90%) and gradually causes significant vision loss as the macular cells deteriorate, leading to blurry vision and blank spots in the center field of vision. Wet macular degeneration is the less common and more serious type (10%) and occurs when new blood vessels grow (choroidal neovascularization; CNV) beneath the retina that leak blood and fluid into the macula and cause scarring that leads to rapid vision loss. Age-related macular degeneration is more common in individuals of European descent.

How does MediFind rank Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) doctors near Mesa, AZ?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) doctors near Mesa, AZ?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with an Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) doctor near Mesa, AZ?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with an Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) doctor near Mesa, AZ?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

      • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
      • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
      • Family history of disease
      • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
      • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
      • List of questions and concerns
      • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) doctor?

      Here are some sample questions:

      • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
      • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
      • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
      • Are there other specialists I need to see?
      • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) doctors near Mesa, AZ?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find an Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
