I chose orthopedics because I love helping people get back on their feet, and I looked at how happy Orthopedic surgeons were 20 years into their practice. That is always a good sign that you have chosen a career path wisely! I was once a kid myself! Growing up I was a babysitter and a nanny, so I kind of grew up around kids. When I did mission work in Guatemala, I gravitated toward taking care of children. When I became interested in pediatric orthopedics, I started focusing on deformity correction because that mostly affects children. I’m passionate about being a doctor in general, and a doctor at Nemours in particular. Also, I think it’s important for people to learn to take care of themselves. As health issues, smoking and obesity are personal hot-buttons for me. I love what I do, and enjoy the interaction with parents and kids. I treat the whole patient as an individual, not just their orthopedic needs, and I treat each child as my own. Both of my parents were in the medical field and strongly influenced the direction of my career. I became a physical therapist, which I enjoyed immensely, but I thought I could make a different contribution to patient care by becoming a physician. In radiology, we are part of the medical team that helps diagnose or exclude an illness and we help to direct the course of our patient’s treatment. Working with children is an amazing experience. Kids are so resilient and bounce back from all types of difficult situations. They each have such a unique perspective and we try our best to tailor our interactive imaging procedures to the child. Sometimes this involves providing anatomy lessons to teen patients, other times it involves just “getting it over with.” We aim to make our imaging procedures as interesting and as comfortable as possible. My areas of interest include: Pediatric Body Imaging Fetal Imaging Child Abuse I try to provide the most accurate information based on our imaging studies to the patient’s medical team so that the child can be treated as quickly as possible. I am fortunate to work with an incredible group of medical practitioners at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children who share my passion to provide the highest quality medical care to all children. I was born in India to a family of doctors, so I did not have to look far for inspiration. I’m married to a pediatric cardiologist, also with duPont Hospital for Children, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I have every day to improve lives for kids and their families. As a father and surgeon, I have a soft spot for helping children in any way I can. It’s a privilege to be able to improve their lives even if there are challenges. I love to see kids getting back to enjoying life to its fullest and being able to help people deal with difficult issues. One of my proudest professional moments was the day I walked into the operating room and had the privilege to start surgically caring for children. I’m still passionate about my work and the opportunities I have every day to improve the lives of kids, one child at a time. The children I treat have serious medical problems, and it takes a whole team of professionals, working in lots of related medical and sociological fields, to make a difference in their lives, and the lives of their families. It’s an honor to be part of that team. At the end of the day, it’s all about the kids. Dr. Thacker is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita. Dr. Robert A. Heinle is a pediatric pulmonologist and sleep physician. He's director of the hospital's Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship, medical director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory and co-director of the neuromuscular clinic. He's also assistant professor of both internal medicine and pediatrics at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. I grew up in a big family. There were always kids around, so I had a lot of practice interacting with, and looking out for, children who were younger than me. As a result, I learned early on that I'm good with kids and enjoy working with them. Growing up, I decided that becoming an aerospace engineer would be fun and exciting, so I actually became one and worked at NASA. But, after spending all day, every day staring at computer screens and not interacting with people, I began to rethink my decision. It occurred to me that the perfect combination of my affinity for science, math and physics, and love for working with children would be to become a pediatrician. So, I went back to school. I'm more than glad I did. I love being a pediatrician. I think I appreciate even more the opportunity of working with kids and helping them because of the extra work and commitment it took to go back to school to become a doctor. I love helping children get better if they are sick, and watching them develop from babies to toddlers, then to being big kids and teens. I love working with their families, too. I absolutely love to teach. I teach my own children, and I thoroughly enjoy educating the next generation of physicians as the program director for our hospital's pediatric pulmonary fellowship and as an assistant professor of internal medicine and pediatrics at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. I assist in the education of our hospital's general pediatrics residents and medical students. I also like to help educate my patients and their families about the medical conditions they're facing and about their treatments and home care. I feel that the best tool in health care is, very often, education. I really want to make sure that each patient and family is taken care of — completely. So I make sure that I spend the time each one needs in our appointments together. For this reason, I may run a little late, especially as the day goes on. I turn that into a promise that I make to all of my patients and families: I may not be on time for our appointment, but I will always give you all the time that you need. In addition to making sure each patient's medicine and treatment is squared away, it’s my goal to make sure each patient — and their family — leaves with a better understanding of asthma or whatever pulmonary condition they’re dealing with. Dr. Heinle is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita. He is also highly rated in 30 other conditions, according to our data. His clinical expertise encompasses Subglottic Stenosis, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Hypochondroplasia, Osteotomy, and Adenoidectomy. Dr. Heinle is board certified in American Board Of Pediatrics.

Even in the face of adversity and medical challenges, children show remarkable resilience. My patients inspire me on a daily basis to be the best physician I can be. I chose to specialize in pediatric pulmonary medicine and sleep medicine because these conditions affect a large amount of the general population, and I wanted to help children with a wide variety of disorders to live happy and healthy lives. I am passionate about helping each family learn to understand their child’s condition. By working with my patients to help them understand their underlying condition, triggers and treatments, my goal is to enable families to manage their children’s condition at home and stay out of the hospital as much as possible. I’m a kid at heart, and I usually express that in my work. When I was accepted into my pediatric fellowship, following a residency in orthopedics, I knew my professional life would always center on kids. I’m a doer and my favorite quote by Emerson is, “What you do speaks so loudly that I can't hear what you say.” Whether as a doctor, parent, or coach, I really enjoy working with kids. I’ve always found the human body fascinating and mystifying in all its complexity. The science of growth is absolutely amazing. I’m passionate about working with kids. I’ve taken a group of middle school recreational runners to two league championships. I also received a national coaching award at Stanford University. In my research, I’ve helped develop new surgical techniques for an extremely difficult condition called osteogenesis imperfecta. My mother’s career as a nurse started my interest in medicine. I volunteered as a candy striper during high school and worked as a nursing assistant through college. After college and medical school in my home state of Ohio, I moved to Delaware for a Nemours residency that combined pediatrics with physical medicine and rehabilitation. Physical medicine and rehabilitation is a way to help children with neuromuscular conditions reach the highest function that they can. I find my patients fun to work with, I love watching them grow, and I enjoy getting to know them and their families. The kids I treat inspire me with their resilience. I’m passionate about helping families of children with neuromuscular injuries or congenital issues become active, informed participants on their child’s care team. It takes a group effort to help an injured child return to prior function or to help a child with a chronic condition make the most of function they have. I make the patient and family’s goals my own. We may be trying to return a child to sports quickly after a concussion or helping a child with a chronic condition participate in meaningful activities. Rehab at Nemours means physicians, nurses, therapists, social workers and others working together with the family. Teamwork is one of our strengths. Dr. Owens is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita. She is also highly rated in 27 other conditions, according to our data. Her clinical expertise encompasses Cerebral Palsy, Spastic Diplegia Infantile Type, Moebius Syndrome, and Concussion. Dr. Owens is board certified in American Board Of Pediatrics.

David Saul was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa. He attended Drexel University for undergraduate studies in biology and premedical education. David also attended Drexel University's College of Medicine to obtain his MD. Subsequently, he completed his internship and residency in diagnostic radiology at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He completed a fellowship in pediatric radiology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He has worked as an attending radiologist in both private and academic practices, before joining Nemours in September 2019. I believe that children are uniquely deserving of our best care because they are innocent, vulnerable and often unaware or not fully aware of their disease. Being a sick kid can be terrifying, and I want to be there to help in some way. I also greatly appreciate and enjoy how often children can recover from seemingly insurmountable disease. Far from making me sad to see illness in a child, it makes me hopeful to think about his/her potential for health and wellness and to enjoy a full life after receiving appropriate treatment. I am driven by a sense of justice, and that the children we serve deserve our best. I care deeply that we provide care in the most up to date, efficient, honest and accurate way possible. My medial interests include: Education Thoracic Imaging Cardiac Imaging Body Imaging Ultrasound MRI I try to lead by example, to give my best effort for every child, and take as much time as needed with each family that I encounter. He’s also been an invited lecturer, active researcher, and a reviewer, editor and contributor of medical journals and book chapters. I think children represent the center of hope in our families. I became a pediatric doctor to help nurture that hope in each family so that each child we care for can reach their absolute best potential. I love the engineering aspects of orthopedics. Doing orthopedics in children just seemed like the perfect fit for me. Dr. Vandna Passi is a pediatric pulmonologist at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. She's an author of peer-reviewed medical journal articles, an invited presenter and an active researcher. I always wanted to work with children, and knew I wanted to be a pediatrician since I finished college. Then, in medical school, I spent a lot of my fourth year in pediatric subspecialties. Now, I get a lot of satisfaction seeing my patients over the long term — I can see their progress and development, and watch them as they grow. Children are such fun to work with and it can be simpler to approach their health issues than with adults. It's very fulfilling. One reason I chose pediatric pulmonology was because I liked the mix of being able to see and help children on an outpatient basis (helping kids on well and sick visits in our clinic) and also provide inpatient care to children who are acutely sick and admitted to the hospital. In my residency, I saw a lot of inner-city children. Many became seriously ill simply because their asthma wasn't being cared for, they hadn't been diagnosed properly, or they (and their families) hadn't been properly educated on how to manage their care. This was way more common than it should have been. I knew I wanted to help these kids, as well as all those who had other pulmonology issues, too. I'm passionate about working with patients and families to educate them on the conditions they’re dealing with, and how to prevent serious episodes and achieve the best possible quality of life. I'm also passionate about our hospital and staff continually setting best practices for treating children with pulmonology conditions and following those procedures routinely. I'm especially interested in these procedures being followed in our intensive care unit (ICU), as well as in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and outpatient clinic. A big part of what I do is educate families on what they need to know regarding their child's condition and health, including proper medication and care. I can't be with their child at all times, so it's really about empowering each family to help their child's quality of life. In children with asthma, for instance, I feel they should never be limited. Together with their family, I want to help them do whatever they want to do in life. Dr. Passi is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita. She is also highly rated in 18 other conditions, according to our data.
