
Overview
Dr. Marika Toscano is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she is also the Associate Program Director for the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship. Dr. Toscano received her undergraduate degree in Human Biology, Health, and Society from Skidmore College, followed by a Master of Science in Clinical Chemistry from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She earned her medical degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University, and completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency and Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center. In her clinical role, Dr. Toscano provides high-risk obstetric care, specializing in complex pregnancies. She sees patients for consultations, prenatal care visits, ultrasound visits and procedures, and as service attending on labor and delivery/antepartum. She is also deeply involved in clinical program building, including leading initiatives for universal perinatal depression screening at JH and the development of integrated care models for perinatal mood disorders. Dr. Toscano's research focuses on perinatal mental health, high-risk pregnancy, and innovations in obstetric ultrasound technology. Her work includes the development of interventions to prevent postpartum depression in high-risk obstetric populations, as well as the application of point-of-care ultrasound in low-resource settings. She has been awarded several grants, including funding from the NIH (Women's Reproductive Health Research Scholar) and GE Healthcare, and has published on topics ranging from maternal mental health to ultrasound applications in perinatal care.
