I see children with a variety of eye problems and adults with double vision and eye misalignment (strabismus). I provide specialized medical and surgical treatment for conditions such as tearing, eyelid abnormalities, lazy eye (amblyopia), strabismus, pediatric cataract, and childhood glaucoma. Many people, particularly children, may be nervous about going to the eye doctor. I hope I can show them how parts of the eye examination can actually be fun and interesting, like when looking at pictures through our special silly glasses or watching movie clips in the clinic. My goal is to help patients and their families understand their eye condition and treatment options so we can work together to improve and restore function in their lives. When people don’t see well or their eyes are not working together properly, it affects much more than just vision. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the change that happens in other aspects of people’s lives when their eye problem is treated.I live in the Triangle with my husband and two daughters who are constantly teaching me new things. I look forward to all the lessons I have yet to learn from them. I enjoy playing volleyball and tennis in my spare time. Dr. Go is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Astigmatism. Her top areas of expertise are Strabismus, Amblyopia, Ocular Hypertension (OHT), Trabeculectomy, and Vitrectomy.

I was born and raised right here in Durham, NC. After attending college at Duke, I ventured north to Boston, where I completed most of my medical training, and was fortunate to meet and marry the love of my life, my husband Neil (also on faculty as a cardiologist here at Duke). I returned to Durham for my Glaucoma fellowship, briefly joined the faculty “across the street” at UNC-Chapel Hill, and then returned “home” to Duke Eye Center in 1995, where I have been on the faculty ever since. Dual fellowship-trained in both Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus as well as in Glaucoma, I have a clinical and research focus on pediatric glaucoma and cataracts, as well as retinopathy of prematurity, but enjoy providing care for myriad pediatric problems of the eyes, including treatment of “grown children” with ocular alignment issues. My modus operandi is very simple – I simply try hard to treat each and every patient the way I would like someone to treat me. It works every time, and I am privileged to be a clinician and educator at Duke Eye Center and in Duke University Health System. Dr. Freedman is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Astigmatism. Her top areas of expertise are Retinopathy of Prematurity, Strabismus, Brown Syndrome, Trabeculectomy, and Cataract Removal.

My clinical practice focuses on the surgical treatment of patients who have cataracts, corneal problems, and those who are looking to get out of their contacts and/or glasses. I’m a professor of ophthalmology and the division chief for cornea and refractive surgery. I find my work extremely rewarding. It’s a special experience and privilege to help give patients their vision back. I grew up studying classical piano, which has interestingly been a positive factor in developing my manual dexterity for both hands. I enjoy music in general and DJ for our ophthalmology meetings across the country and the world. Dr. Kim is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Astigmatism. My father is a physician. Growing up, I saw the relationships he formed with his patients, and I knew that a career in medicine was something that I wanted to pursue. As a fellowship-trained cornea specialist, I treat cornea disease and perform corneal transplants, including DSEK/DMEK/DALK. I also treat cataracts, corneal disease, dry eyes, and glaucoma and perform laser cataract surgery using the most advanced intraocular lenses and refractive surgery, including LASIK. I am a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist who specializes in patients with cataracts and cataract surgery related problems. When it comes to treating patients, I like to have a clear understanding of their problems and expectations so that I can explain what I can reasonably do for them. Seeing the satisfaction of a happy patient after successful cataract surgery is my favorite part of my job. I have always enjoyed working and interacting with people and feeling like I can improve their lives. I enjoy being in a scientific field and the optics, anatomy and skills required to become an ophthalmologist drew my interest after my grandfather underwent cataract surgery while I was a teenager. What is the definition of Astigmatism?

Astigmatism is a type of refractive error of the eye. Refractive errors cause blurred vision. They are the most common reason why a person goes to see an eye professional.

Other types of refractive errors are:

      • Farsightedness
      • Nearsightedness

When should I see an Astigmatism doctor near Durham, NC?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

      • Your primary care provider recommends it.
      • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
      • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
      • You need specialized testing or procedures.
      • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing an Astigmatism doctor near Durham, NC?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Astigmatism doctors near Durham, NC?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Astigmatism doctors near Durham, NC?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with an Astigmatism doctor near Durham, NC?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Astigmatism doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Astigmatism doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with an Astigmatism doctor near Durham, NC?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

      • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
      • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
      • Family history of disease
      • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
      • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
      • List of questions and concerns
      • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Astigmatism doctor?

      Here are some sample questions:

      • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
      • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
      • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
      • Are there other specialists I need to see?
      • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Astigmatism doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Astigmatism doctors near Durham, NC?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Astigmatism doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find an Astigmatism doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Astigmatism doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
