Dr. David P. Fowler
Overview
Dr. David Fowler is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed a surgical internship and sports medicine research fellowship at the University of Massachusetts and with the Boston Red Sox before returning to UPMC to complete his orthopaedic training. Dr. Fowler served as medical staff president of AHN Forbes and as a member of the medical executive committee at UPMC East. He currently serves as the Orthopaedic Section Chief at UPMC East. Dr Fowler is a general orthopaedist, seeing nearly all orthopaedic maladies (except for spine problems) with an emphasis in total joint replacement, including robotic assisted total knee replacement, and sports medicine, as well as carpal tunnel and other general hand surgery. Dr. Fowler has served as the team doctor at Gateway High School since 1989 and as team orthopaedist at Penn Hills since 2016. Robert Kaufmann, MD, is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Mechanical Engineering. After working as a design engineer for two years, he attended Temple University School of Medicine and completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Temple University Hospital. He received specialized training in elbow and upper extremity surgery at the Philadelphia Hand Center at Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Kaufmann has published more than 30 articles, book chapters, and textbooks. He regularly presents his clinical and research findings at national meetings. Dr. Kaufmann is the primary upper extremity surgeon for the University of Pittsburgh and the Duquesne University athletic programs. He is also part of the medical team that treats the Pittsburgh Penguins. He specializes in the care of athletes and active adults, and has extensive experience with arthroscopy and arthroplasty of the elbow, wrist, and hand.
