Dr. Barbara Minkowitz
Overview
Barbara Minkowitz, MD, is a fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeon, board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. She practices all aspects of pediatric orthopedics with an emphasis on bone health and limb alignment including posture. She is an expert on vitamin D and its association to pediatric fractures, a topic on which she has given local and national talks, and has taught instructional courses on the topic to other orthopedists at the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons.In her 30 years in practice she has published both clinical and academic papers for which she has received international, national and regional awards. Dr. Minkowitz has also received research grants for various studies through the years on topics including infection, pediatric fractures, vitamin D deficiency and bone health. She has expertise in trauma and sports injuries, osteomyelitis, joint infections, foot deformities such as clubfeet, scoliosis, hip dysplasia, and growing pains, as well as pain at knee, hip or ankle, etc. She is very interested in limb alignment and has a robust surgical practice for patients that need guided growth for knock knees, and bow legs as well as those with in toeing and out toeing due to rotational deformities of the legs.After earning her medical degree at New York Medical College, Valhalla, NY, Dr. Minkowitz performed her orthopedic residency at Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY. She completed her pediatric orthopedic fellowship at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Minkowitz holds staff positions at Morristown and Overlook Medical Centers. She is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.

Atlantic Medical Group Pediatric Orthopedics
A specialist in pediatric orthopedics and sports medicine, Dr. John Tis is one of the few fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeons who is also board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in Sports Medicine. In addition to ACL tears and other sports injuries, he enjoys treating a wide variety of pediatric deformities including scoliosis and hip dysplasia. He is an expert in performing arthroscopic surgical procedures on ankles, hips, shoulders, elbows and knees, including ACL reconstructions. He treats injuries that include ACL tears, hip and shoulder dislocations and labral tears.Dr. Tis has a special interest in treating Perthes Disease and was a founding member of the International Perthes Study Group (IPSG). In addition, he also treats orthopedic issues related to conditions including cerebral palsy, osteochondritis dessicans, slipped capital femoral epiphysis and spondylolisthesis.After earning his medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington, DC, Dr. Tis completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC, a research fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, and a pediatric orthopedic surgery and scoliosis fellowship at Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego, CA.Previously, Dr. Tis was an associate professor at Johns Hopkins University, where he was on the faculty for 13 years. While there, he developed an orthopedic sports medicine practice and became an expert in arthroscopically treating orthopedic injuries and disorders as well as complex pediatric spine and limb deformities. Prior to that, he served for four years as the director of Pediatric Orthopaedics at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Tis also served for 23 years in the active duty and reserve military including four wartime deployments where he treated high-energy war wounds and limb defects. He served as chief of Orthopaedics at Ibn Sina Hospital (“Baghdad ER”) during Operation Iraqi Freedom.Dr. Tis is a member of numerous professional societies including the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Mark Rieger, MD, is a board certified pediatric orthopedic surgeon and the founding partner and senior physician at The Pediatric Orthopedic Center. He is also a member of a member of the Atlantic Health Spine and Deformity Program. Dr. Rieger was a pediatric orthopedic fellow at the internationally acclaimed Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children and has served as Chief of Pediatric Orthopedics at Morristown Medical Center. He is an Assistant Professor at NYU Langone Medical Center, where he performs scoliosis surgery as a member of an internationally recognized spine center. Dr. Rieger is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America (POSNA), the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), and the Orthopedic Research Society (ORS). Because of this expertise, he is a frequently requested speaker and lecture extensively to physicians, nurses, physical therapists, trainers and parents to educate and pass on his experience and knowledge to the next generation.
