Dr. Cornelia Trimble is a professor in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. She has joint appointments in the Departments of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Oncology, and Pathology. Dr. Trimble completed her residency in anatomic pathology at Cornell University Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in gynecologic pathology and a residency in gynecology and obstetrics at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Her clinical interest and expertise is in developing new ways to intercept cancers — treating pre-invasive, cancer precursor lesions — caused by HPV. Her work has focused on two nonsurgical strategies: (1) immunotherapy via therapeutic HPV vaccination, and (2) repurposing artesunate, a plant-derived compound used to treat malaria, as a topical treatment administered by the patient herself to treat high-grade, intraepithelial HPV lesions. Her work has shown proof-of-principle, that it is indeed possible to eliminate HPV pre-cancers without surgery, and has been recognized internationally. Dr. Trimble has dedicated herself to delivering cutting-edge care to girls and women who have a very common problem, caused by a very common virus, HPV. She values respect, integrity, quality and compassion in caring for her patients. Dr. Trimble is rated as an Elite provider by MediFind in the treatment of Cervical Dysplasia. Her top areas of expertise are Cervical Dysplasia, Human Papillomavirus Infection, Vulvar Cancer, and Cervical Cancer.

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to care for those in need. My childhood experience in helping care for a terminally ill grandparent inspired me to make an impact in healthcare. This early motivation propelled me through the many steps of training, including graduating from Mercer University School of Medicine as a top national scholar and completing residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, with top surgical honors. I received my OB/GYN certification in 2009. Over this time, I have continually devoted myself to providing knowledgeable, compassionate and cutting-edge care. As a husband, father and member of the local Christian community, I understand how the different facets of life affect our health. My ambition is to recognize not only the physical but also the emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of women from all walks of life. In obstetrics, my interests include fertility evaluation, prenatal counseling and low- and high-risk pregnancies. As for gynecology, my expertise includes minimally invasive surgeries such as robotics, single incision laparoscopy, as well as vaginal prolapse repair. I have lived all up and down the East Coast. I was born in Maine, lived in Virginia, attended medical school in Miami, trained in Chicago and ended up in Tennessee because my family had moved here. I am married with two children, ages five and nine. This is a great community for our family. We are blessed with great friends, and the weather is a happy medium after living in the opposite extremes of Miami and Chicago. My husband and I are big race fans, so we love traveling to see races. I first became interested in medicine when I took a high school explorer’s course for health professions, and after my first rotation in medical school, I knew that I wanted to do obstetrics and gynecology. It was the one rotation that I could get up for at 4 a.m., come home to read about and still be excited to go in the next day. As a physician, I like to take care of the entire person, listening to what she has to say. Oftentimes the patient is there for one reason, but as we talk sometimes another concern may reveal itself. Mountain States Medical Group OB/GYN is a large group of well-trained practitioners with many different personalities to find a patient’s perfect match. A native of Elizabethton, I graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1984 and completed my undergraduate studies at Southern Missionary College in 1988. After receiving my medical education from East Tennessee State University James H. Quillen College of Medicine and graduating in 1992, I completed my OB/GYN specialty training at the University of Tennessee while serving at Baroness Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. I was encouraged by strong family ties to the Tri-Cities area where my father, mother, brother and sister practiced in various fields of medicine. Because I value my close relationships with God and family, I returned home to start my own practice in 1996. Since that time, I have been blessed with three wonderful children. There have been many challenges, rewards and miracles as a parent that have made me stronger and – in some ways – made me the physician I am today. As each child I deliver is born, I pause to reflect on what lives the little one will impact. I provide care from adolescence to geriatrics, as well as those needing specialized care. I enjoy providing reproductive healthcare services and never take for granted my role in bringing new lives into the world. I specialize in performing minimally invasive surgical procedures. I have pursued this specialty by promoting the role of advanced laparoscopic techniques and expanded my traditional laparoscopic skills to include the provision of da Vinci® robotic surgery and single-port techniques, as well as pelvic support procedures. I also offer in office procedures to include essure sterilization and hydrothermal ablation. Dr. May is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Cervical Dysplasia. I was born and raised in Louisiana in a city just outside of New Orleans. Displaced by Hurricane Katrina, I moved to Monroe, Louisiana where I graduated with a degree in biology from the University of Louisiana. I then attended medical school at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic medicine where I met my husband, Christian Sullivan. We then moved north to Michigan where I completed my OBGYN residency in Detroit. After completing residency we decided to return to his roots and relocated to the Tri-Cities area to raise our family and begin our careers. While practicing at Ballad OBGYN in Kingsport I met my nurse, Lisa Gibson, who will be joining me at State of Franklin OB/GYN. At work, she truly is my “better half” and a blessing to me and my practice. Lisa and I love our patients and are excited to be continuing to care for women in the Tri-Cities area. I am truly passionate about women’s healthcare. I am driven by the bonds I build with my patients over the course of their lives and the enjoyment I hold in keeping them healthy and well. My husband is a gastroenterologist in Bristol. We have two spunky boys, Christian and Jenson, who keep us busy. We love traveling, spending time outdoors and challenging each other at CrossFit. When not on dry land we can likely be found on a Disney cruise ship spending time in the middle of the ocean. What is the definition of Cervical Dysplasia?

Cervical dysplasia refers to abnormal changes in the cells on the surface of the cervix. The cervix is the lower part of the uterus (womb) that opens at the top of the vagina.

The changes are not cancer, but they can lead to cancer of the cervix if not treated.

When should I see a Cervical Dysplasia doctor near me?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

      • Your primary care provider recommends it.
      • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
      • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
      • You need specialized testing or procedures.
      • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Cervical Dysplasia doctor near me?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Cervical Dysplasia doctors near me?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Cervical Dysplasia doctors near me?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Cervical Dysplasia doctor near me?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Cervical Dysplasia doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Cervical Dysplasia doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Cervical Dysplasia doctor near me?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

      • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
      • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
      • Family history of disease
      • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
      • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
      • List of questions and concerns
      • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Cervical Dysplasia doctor?

      Here are some sample questions:

      • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
      • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
      • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
      • Are there other specialists I need to see?
      • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Cervical Dysplasia doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Cervical Dysplasia doctors near me?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Cervical Dysplasia doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Cervical Dysplasia doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Cervical Dysplasia doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
