
Overview
Dr. Kevin J. Mullins is the Chair of Neurosurgery at South Shore University Hospital and a board-certified neurosurgeon with over two decades of experience. Specializing in spinal and cranial disorders, Dr. Mullins provides comprehensive care for conditions affecting the brain, spine, and nervous system. He has performed more than 6,000 neurosurgical procedures, with expertise in both minimally invasive spine surgery and complex spinal reconstruction.
A graduate of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Dr. Mullins completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He further distinguished himself as a Clinical Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital before transitioning to Long Island in 1998. Dr. Mullins has since played a pivotal role in expanding neurosurgical services at South Shore University Hospital, where he leads a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care.
Dr. Mullins' clinical practice is deeply rooted in evidence-based medicine, emphasizing conservative, non-surgical treatment options whenever possible. In 2017, Dr. Mullins founded SpineCare Long Island, which evolved into NeuroCare Long Island in 2023. Dr. Mullins continues to lead the practice with a commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care, using the latest advancements in neurosurgical techniques and technology to improve patient outcomes.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Mullins serves as an Associate Professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He is dedicated to training the next generation of neurosurgeons and advancing the field through education and research. His contributions to neurosurgery include numerous academic publications and presentations, and he remains actively involved in neurosurgical education and departmental leadership.
