Dr. Dempsey grew up in New Mexico and has traveled throughout Latin America with global health groups, including Amigos de las Americas and Unite for Sight, all formative experiences leading him to practice medicine. He earned his bachelor's degree in biology and foreign languages as well as his medical degree from the University of New Mexico. He then completed his residency in family medicine through the Lincoln Medical Education Partnership program in Nebraska. After residency, Dr. Dempsey worked in a rural federally qualified health center (FQHC) in southern Colorado. Outside of work, Dr. Dempsey enjoys spending time with his wife who is also a faculty physician with SCFM, and their two sons.
