From my early days in medical school, I was taught to look at the whole person, meaning that I see each patient as more than just a collection of parts that may become injured or disease. This holistic approach taught me how to integrate the patient into the health care process as a partner. This basic foundation was expanded upon as I completed both my residence and fellowship at Duke. I like to think that in the years I have been practicing medicine, I have honored those words spoken by Dr. Still. As a board certified family physician, I have sought to promote wellness and wellbeing among my patients at all stages of their lives, through collaborative partnerships with them (and sometimes their caregivers) in what I believe is truly patient-centered care.
