"Joseph Martz, MD, is chief of colorectal surgery and vice chairman of surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, and chief of colorectal surgery for Northwell facilities in New York City boroughs and Westchester County. He has been practicing for more than 20 years and performs some of the highest volume of colorectal minimally invasive surgery, including sophisticated robotic procedures, in the tri-state area.

Dr. Procaccino was born and raised in Westchester, New York. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Manhattan College and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to receive his Doctorate in Medicine from New York Medical College, and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha in 1984. Dr. Procaccino relocated to Long Island in 1984 where he began his Internship in General Surgery at North Shore University Hospital. Once he completed his training in General Surgery, he trained as a fellow at the Cleveland Clinic. In 1998, he was asked to assume the role of Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset.Dr. Procaccino has been the Director of North Shore University Hospital s Center for Colon and Rectal Diseases since inception. In this capacity, he was charged with the task of forming a Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery for the North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Hospital Department of Surgery. Dr. Procaccino soon took on the coveted position of Chief of this Division.Perhaps Dr. Procaccino s most significant contribution to the field of Colon and Rectal Surgery is his training of the next generation of surgeons. Since 2003, Dr. Procaccino has been the Director of the North Shore/LIJ Fellowship Program in Colon and Rectal Surgery which is accredited by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Dr. Procaccino s clinical interests include Colon & Rectal Cancer, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn s and Ulcerative Colitis) and Diverticulitis. He performs both laparoscopic and open surgery.
