
Overview
Dr. Nitzschke is an associate surgeon in the Division of Trauma, Burn and Surgical Critical Care and Emergency General Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She is the program director for the general surgery residency program in the Department of Surgery. Dr. Nitzschke completed her bachelor’s degree at Saint Mary’s College at Notre Dame, her master’s degree at MCP Hahnemann University and her medical degree at Loyola University Strict School of Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, where she was the administrative chief resident. She completed a burn surgery fellowship at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research and a trauma and critical care fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Previously, she was the medical director of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Burn Center. Dr. Nitzschke’s current research is focused on the acute resuscitation needs of patients with shock. She has been involved in various research endeavors such as the evaluation of the triage process for elderly trauma patients and the care of patients with necrotizing soft tissue infections.
