Overview

I am an eye doctor who performs cornea transplants, Lasik eye surgery and takes care of patients with cataracts. I’ve been at Duke for over 12 years. I chose medicine because it allows me to apply science in a very effective, tangible way to improve people’s lives. When I see patients, my goal is to combine compassionate care with personalized attention. I also try to educate my patients so they can more easily understand and follow their treatment plan. I was inspired to become an eye doctor after having an experience teaching a man with vision impairment to ski again. I continue to obtain great fulfillment from helping patients improve their vision so they can see well and have the confidence to function again on a high level. In my free time, I play ice hockey and enjoy spending time with my family.

Dr. Semchyshyn is rated as a Distinguished provider by MediFind in the treatment of Corneal Dystrophy and Perceptive Deafness. His top areas of expertise are Fuchs Dystrophy, Macular Corneal Dystrophy Type 1, Corneal Dystrophy and Perceptive Deafness, and Cataract.
