Dr. Noreen Bukhari
Overview
I specialize in treating patients with movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease, tremors, dystonia, tics and cerebellar ataxia. I also apply botulinum toxin and deep brain stimulation for treating select movement disorders patients. My patients' questions and resilience inspires my research pursuits and drives me to advance therapies for movement disorders. I grew up in New York and have enjoyed settling down in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In my free time, I enjoy writing poetry, volunteering for charity work, and sightseeing.

I fell in love with neurology on day one of my clerkship year in medical school. To me, the opportunity to help patients and families through complex illnesses is simultaneously challenging and incredibly rewarding. I ultimately chose to sub-specialize in movement disorders because I enjoy being able to form long-term relationships with patients and families, and I'm optimistic that a disease-modifying therapy for Parkinson disease is within reach. I'm also a core faculty member of Duke's Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities, and the History of Medicine, where I develop programs to help students and trainees understand the patient's perspective, improving clinician resilience and mitigating burnout. Outside of work, I am an avid runner and cyclist, looking forward to exploring trails around the Triangle.
