I believe that from a very young age, I have always had a special way of connecting with children. As a medical student I was fascinated by how resilient children are when facing stress, trauma, illness and challenges. When dealing with young patients who are often afraid of things like shots, developing a rapport and connection with them helps me in providing care for their emotional, physical and social development. As a pediatrician, one of the roles I particularly focus on has been working with children and adolescents — and their families — to both prevent and treat childhood obesity. As rates of childhood obesity increase in the U.S., I am dedicated to helping my young patients and their parents overcome the obesity epidemic.  Some of my specific areas of interest are: attention deficit disorder (ADD) breathing issues nutrition  prevention and treatment of childhood obesity As the mother of two beautiful girls, I too, find myself going through the parenting journey. I understand the importance of listening to each child and their parents’ concerns. Through the practice of evidence-based medicine I want to help parents understand and promote their child’s healthy development. I was born and raised in Panama in a multicultural family of Chinese and Hispanic descent. My husband and I enjoy raising our three boys in a diverse place like Central Florida, and I enjoy practicing here too. As a primary care pediatrician, I can build relationships with the families and kids I treat, which is a key reason I chose this field. I love working with children. Their innocence, their sincere smiles, their creativity and imagination, their big hearts and little hands brighten my day — every day! I also like working with their families. I strongly believe that parents and physicians have a mission to offer children a good education and a healthy lifestyle. I enjoy providing patients and families with tools to learn new habits so they can build the kind of environment that promotes health and enjoyment. We should work together toward empowering kids to make the right choices about school, life and staying healthy. I am committed to helping and guiding kids who are trying to manage their weight, and that means encouraging them and involving their families. Working together, we can create a supportive environment that makes the transition to healthy living easier. I try to give patients and parents the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about incorporating physical activity, nutrition, quality foods and good food choices into daily living. I’ve been a pediatrician long enough to see patients grow up and bring their own children to me. My experience helped us become a designated “medical home” for children with complex issues. My wife and I raised three children in the community where I practice. We have all worked hard to make this a good place to live and thrive. When you treat a child, you are really caring for the whole family. The wellness of the group depends on the health of each of its members. Similarly, the community is stronger when families are healthy and happy. So I take my work very seriously, giving patients and their families love and compassion in every situation. I’m passionate about providing high-quality care for my patients, no matter what their needs are. Our practice has been designated a medical home by the American Academy of Pediatrics. At the time we earned it, there were fewer than 25 practices in Florida with this designation. It means that we have demonstrated the ability to care for children with complex illnesses and conditions as well as children who just need wellness checks and vaccinations. As a seasoned pediatrician with more than 25 years of experience treating children and teens with a wide variety of conditions, including behavioral and developmental issues, I am dedicated to finding answers for them and their families. I also care deeply about my community. I serve on the board of Boys Town and am active in other organizations that are doing good work for children and families in Central Florida. As a mother of four, I understand none of my kids grew up “by the book.” Being a mother has helped me be a better pediatrician. I am so thankful for my children and for my wonderful patients — they are the best teachers. I am a reflective person. Being around children allows me to take a step back and savor the small, meaningful moments of life. I get to welcome new life and joy with families. I love seeing the surprise and awe on a baby's face when he rolls over for the first time. I laugh when learning fun facts with a chatty child. I gush when I see sweet siblings read together. I am with families during their most joyous, but also their most vulnerable times. With children, I know my care can make a life-long impact. In medicine, everyday conversations are as important as the critical illnesses. I appreciate being able to guide and educate children and families in order to help these bright minds reach their full potential. I have an affinity for children with special needs. I embrace diversity, learning about history and cultures, and appreciating our similarities and differences. I feel so fortunate that in medicine, I have the ability to constantly learn with and from families, continuously grow and evolve, and provide that knowledge to help others. As a pediatrician, I am honored to be a partner in your child's care. Always listening, my goal is to be able to provide families detailed information to help make the best medical decisions. I want to be a safe place for patients to share their concerns. Although a doctor's office can be a frightening place for a child, I try my best to relate to my patients and put them at ease. I grew up here in Central Florida. After high school I went to University of Florida, then decided to brave the cold weather in Milwaukee for medical school. I joined the U.S. Navy and did my pediatric internship at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.I loved pediatrics and caring for children. After my internship, my country needed me to serve the troops as a Naval flight surgeon. While it took me away from my first love of pediatrics, it offered me so many unique experiences flying in airplanes and helicopters and caring for our Marine and Naval air crew. I got to travel the world from Japan to Korea and even to Iraq. After exiting the Navy, I completed my residency at Duke University in pediatrics. As a U.S. Marine Corps spouse, I practiced in multiple U.S. cities as well as Japan (again). I love that I am back into pediatrics and Central Florida doing my life calling. I love general pediatrics because there is such a variety of visits from treating sick children to helping kids meet their milestones to just watching kids grow into healthy, well-adjusted adults. Pediatrics allows us to really make a difference through prevention and guidance. Overall, I am passionate about giving your child the brightest future while keeping them feeling healthy and well. I am very experienced in mental health and manage a lot of ADHD, anxiety, and depression. Seeing the progression of development in a young baby to a toddler and teen is heartwarming for me. Outside of work I enjoy traveling, reading, doing puzzles, and Peloton. I have even visited the Peloton studio. I love vacationing and hanging out with my two children who are entering the teen years (scary but rewarding). I try to give parents tools and education to make their children as healthy and happy as possible. As a mom of two, I relate to the trials and tribulations of parenting. I always knew I wanted to take care of children. I strongly believe that the pediatrician’s office should be the medical home for families and that each patient deserves the time to receive personalized and compassionate care. I grew up in Michigan, and am now a happy Florida transplant. My husband teaches chemistry at Rollins College. I love the adventure that I get to take with families as their small babies grow and move through all the milestones of childhood. The honesty and innocence of children never ceases to surprise me and put a smile on my face, even when they are not feeling well. I view it as a privilege to be a stable source of support for both patients and families. The bonds we form remind me of why I wanted to practice medicine in the first place. I am passionate about providing comprehensive, evidence-based, high-quality medicine to my patients. I recognize that every patient and family’s circumstances, background and medical issues are different, and I want to provide that individualized care that’s needed for them. I want to empower my patients and families to be as knowledgeable as possible about their health, and I encourage healthy lifestyle choices for the entire family. I try to draw from my past experiences and continue to push myself to be a lifelong learner of medicine. Being a new parent opened my eyes to what an awesome responsibility this is. It has given me an even better perspective on how important education, communication and reassurance is for my families. One of the most important things I can do as a doctor is to build trust with families. It takes time and true effort to truly appreciate their experiences. I grew up in Oviedo and attended the University of Central Florida for a BS in Molecular Biology and Microbiology, and for my medical degree. I then completed my pediatric residency at the University of Virginia. Outside of medicine, I love spending time with my family. My wife and I welcomed a baby boy this year who loves to keep us on our toes! Children deserve high quality care. I have always found it very rewarding to care for kids throughout periods of illness and wellness. Keeping the ones I love healthy is the reason I am a pediatrician today, and I look forward to caring for your child in the same way. In primary care, I am passionate about effective communication with patients and the members of their care team. I strive to help families feel in control of their child's care and confident in the plan, both in keeping kids healthy and in handling acute or complex medical conditions. My professional interests also include quality improvement, medical education and volunteer work. The best way I can understand the needs of my patients and their families is by being present, attentive and a good listener. From our first visit to each subsequent encounter, I will seek to establish trust and create a safe and comfortable place to address your child's specific physical, emotional, educational and social needs. What is the definition of Delayed Growth?

Delayed growth is poor or abnormally slow height or weight gains in a child younger than age 5. This may just be normal, and the child may outgrow it.

When should I see a Delayed Growth doctor near Sanford, FL?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Delayed Growth doctor near Sanford, FL?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Delayed Growth doctors near Sanford, FL?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Delayed Growth doctors near Sanford, FL?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Delayed Growth doctor near Sanford, FL?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Delayed Growth doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Delayed Growth doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Delayed Growth doctor near Sanford, FL?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Delayed Growth doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Delayed Growth doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Delayed Growth doctors near Sanford, FL?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Delayed Growth doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Delayed Growth doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Delayed Growth doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
