"Philosophy of care | To provide my best care for children and families, regardless of who they are, where they are from or what is going on in their lives. I believe every kid in this world deserves access to the best possible care. I have spent the last 16 years practicing inpatient and outpatient complex care pediatrics locally as well as developing global health programs so other countries can improve their quality and access to care. | Why I entered medicine | I wanted to be a doctor from an early age; one of my aunts had surgery and then we watched the same surgery in school. I saw medicine as a challenging career that allowed me to work closely with families. I tell students I was drawn to pediatrics because I loved the range of diseases and working with children, but really, I am just a big kid myself, so it seems fitting to work with my ""peers."" | Community involvement | I have always been very active in my community. I have been a Cub scoutmaster and a church elder and coached Little League and travel baseball more than a decade. I truly believe part of caring for a community is also participating in that community. I have tried to be as involved as my job would allow. | Personal interests | I very much enjoy sports and have three children playing sports in college. I will stop and watch any sporting event anywhere no matter the age of the participants. I also spend free time on woodworking or taking hikes and walks.". "Philosophy of care | While caring for children of all ages, my goal is to help them grow and develop to reach their full potential. I hope to teach them about their health and, as they become older, to encourage them to take an active role in their health care. I work with each young patient and their parents/guardians to ensure the best course of action for each child regarding their specific diseases and illnesses. | Why I entered medicine | Within the medical field, I chose pediatrics because it combined my love of science and children. I enjoy puzzles and ""figuring things out,"" which is something you must do often as a physician. I also love seeing kids grow and become young adults. I feel honored to play a role in their childhood. | Community involvement | I am actively involved in the flu drive at LVHN. I am also involved in advancing LGBTQ+ health care within LVHN and our community. | Personal interests | My free time is spent with friends and my animals. Philosophy of care | I view you, the parent, as the best resource for information about your child. I listen carefully to what you tell me, so I can provide the most appropriate and effective health care. As I get to know you better, I can be a resource for behavior problems, social difficulties and, of course, medical issues. An unknown author captured my philosophy of children in this poem: “When a child speaks, listen. When a child laughs, smile. While a child dreams, believe. When a child hurts, heal.” I help your child heal. | Why I entered medicine | I've always enjoyed interacting with children and have been fascinated by the stages of their development. In sixth grade, I was assigned a career report that required me to interview someone in a profession that I might be interested in pursuing. I talked with a pediatrician and ever since then I knew that’s what I wanted to be. | Community involvement | I volunteer as the health care consultant for the Children's Early Care and Education Center, the daycare center for the children of Lehigh Valley Health Network employees. | Personal interests | I’m passionate about being a mom to my three sons. We enjoy traveling to many places, but our favorite vacation spot is the beach. We also like to hike, cook together and spend time with family and friends. I enjoy lap swimming, biking and running to help keep me in shape. Dr. Carter is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Delayed Growth. Philosophy of care | I practice evidence-based medicine to provide the most updated medical care for your child. I am passionate about the importance of preventive medicine to ensure your child has the full potential to live a healthy life. In matters of illness, I take the tools I learned in my medical training to guide decision-making and minimize any potential risks with treatment. I not only include your child but also your family in discussions to provide a team-based approach to care. | Why I entered medicine | Since a young age I have been fascinated by the intricacies of the human body. Inspired by my father, a pediatrician, I was drawn to the study of medicine and the rewards of a career in pediatrics. I chose pediatrics because of the ability to follow patients from birth until adulthood and to create lasting and rewarding relationships with patients and their families. | Community involvement | As a mom, I value spending time with my own children. In my free time, I volunteer at their school. | Personal interests | I have a particular interest in the study of foreign languages. "Why I entered medicine | My choice to go to medical school seems to have begun long before college and was the result of a very idealistic view of life and a desire to use the gifts God had given me in the most effective way. My career as a pediatrician was really chosen for me. After third-year medical school clinical rotations in family medicine, internal medicine and then pediatrics, my wife said to me, ""You need to be a pediatrician."" She reminded me of one very special 8-year-old patient who was dying of cancer yet who was the patient whom I talked about the most and whom I looked forward to seeing the most each day. After a few minutes of thought, I never looked back. And I've never regretted the decision. | Personal interests | Ideally my faith in God would define me as a person. A few years ago, I wrote up a personal mission statement that encapsulated my broad goals. That statement said that I want to be in a growing and dynamic relationship with God that allows me to be more effective in my roles as a husband, father and physician. My thoughts have not changed in the intervening years. I have a passion for doing things excellently, completely and with compassion. I feel that this is a direct outgrowth of my faith. I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, reading, landscaping/yard work, running and working in my local church.". Philosophy of care | I aim to provide your child with quality care and encourage a team approach that makes sure you, your child and any specialists have input.  Plans of care are formed after taking everything into account. You and your child will be well-informed about the treatment plan and appropriate follow up. | Why I entered medicine | I became interested in medicine after being injured competing in track and while playing soccer. During medical training, I chose pediatrics after witnessing the relationship between a pediatrician I was working with and her patients. She offered them guidance and advice to help them reach their potential. I want to emulate my mentor in providing fantastic care. | Community involvement | I volunteer with LVHN's annual drive-thru flu shot clinics. | Personal interests | I enjoy spending time outdoors, whether hiking, biking or just going for a walk. "Philosophy of care | My philosophy of care is to treat every patient as if they were my own child. I strive to provide high quality, evidence-based care to all of my patients. I listen to both the child (when old enough to relay their concerns) and the parents (who know the child best) and make sure I answer all of their questions and address any concerns they have. I try to engage the child whenever I can and make them an active participant in their health. I work as part of a team including the child, parents, other caregivers, medical sub-specialists, teachers/schools, and others to provide the best care possible. I ensure the parents and child are well-informed about their treatment plan and appropriate follow up is provided. As a pediatrician, a significant portion of the care I provide is preventive care and counseling ensuring children stay safe and healthy. | Why I entered medicine | From the time I was very young, I have wanted to be a doctor. At five years old I began saying ""when I grow up, I’m going to be a baby doctor."" I quickly learned that a ""baby doctor"" was called a pediatrician. As I grew, so did my fascination for the human body and medicine. I volunteered at Lehigh Valley Hospital through high school which reaffirmed my aspirations. I have thoroughly enjoyed the journey to becoming a pediatrician and am very happy with my career choice. | Community involvement | I support many charities that serve children including THON, Penn State University’s student run philanthropy for children with cancer. | Personal interests | As a relatively new mom, I can now say that the thing I enjoy most is spending time with our daughter! Being a mom has influenced the way I see things and has definitely made me a better doctor. I also love spending time with my husband and our labradoodle.". Philosophy of care | I feel my obligation as a physician is to listen to my patients, offer quality medical care, educate the family about diseases and preventive health strategies, and include the family in decisions regarding treatment. I spend a significant amount of time on education. I want my patients and their families to leave my office well-informed, so that they can continue the care that is needed at home and understand what they are treating. When I see patients, I always try to engage the child first. I'll spend a few minutes playing with him or her or talking about non-medical subjects to put him or her at ease before I get to the more serious issues that brought them into the office that day. Children need to feel comfortable with me. When they realize it can be fun, it's a lot easier to approach them with my stethoscope and to examine them. | Why I entered medicine | I enjoy spending time with children and families. There can be challenging times when a child is ill, and a family feels a lot of stress in caring for the child. The rewards come when that child and family come back, and the child laughs and plays because he enjoys coming to visit his doctor. It is also an amazing privilege to see your patients grow and mature over time. I believe what is most important in our lives is to spend time helping others. I'm so fortunate that my job allows me to help others and gives me a great sense of accomplishment. | Personal interests | I enjoy being a mom. I juggle the routine of all the after-school activities, homework and free play. I also enjoy running, gardening and being creative. Philosophy of care | I feel that treating the whole patient is very important in medicine. A disease or diagnosis can affect people very differently, so individualized treatment plans are the norm. To find the best way to treat you, I first consider your personal needs and how your diagnosis and treatment may affect other aspects of your life. | Why I entered medicine | I got into pediatrics because I have always enjoyed working with children. My mom was a special education teacher. After working during high school and college as a nurse technician at a long-term care facility for medically complex children, I knew I wanted to go into medicine, specifically pediatrics. During training I cared for children who had gastrointestinal disorders, including intestinal failure and inflammatory bowel disease, sparking my interest and passion in gastroenterology. | Personal interests | I love spending time with my husband, 2-year-old daughter and French bulldog Linus. Together we love to travel and explore new places. In my spare time I love to cook and bake. I also enjoy photography and snowboarding. What is the definition of Delayed Growth?

Delayed growth is poor or abnormally slow height or weight gains in a child younger than age 5. This may just be normal, and the child may outgrow it.

When should I see a Delayed Growth doctor near Trexlertown, PA?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

      • Your primary care provider recommends it.
      • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
      • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
      • You need specialized testing or procedures.
      • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Delayed Growth doctor near Trexlertown, PA?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Delayed Growth doctors near Trexlertown, PA?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Delayed Growth doctors near Trexlertown, PA?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Delayed Growth doctor near Trexlertown, PA?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Delayed Growth doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Delayed Growth doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Delayed Growth doctor near Trexlertown, PA?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

      • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
      • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
      • Family history of disease
      • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
      • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
      • List of questions and concerns
      • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Delayed Growth doctor?

      Here are some sample questions:

      • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
      • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
      • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
      • Are there other specialists I need to see?
      • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Delayed Growth doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Delayed Growth doctors near Trexlertown, PA?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Delayed Growth doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Delayed Growth doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Delayed Growth doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
