
Overview
Dr. Wain joined the Brigham in February 2023 as a Surgeon, and Associate Chief of Quality and Safety, both for the Thoracic Surgery Department. Before joining the Brigham, Dr. Wain was the chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery and the vice chairman of the Department of Surgery at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center He’s a member of various societies, including the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American Association for Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Wain received his undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. He completed residency training in surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. After a surgical research fellowship at the City of Hope National Medical Center, he completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and Toronto General Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

In addition, he treats benign esophageal disease such as gastro-esophageal reflux disease, giant paraesophageal hernias, diverticulum, etc. He performs POEM procedures for achalasia as well as sympathectomy for hyperhidrosis and endoluminal therapies such as PDT, laser, and stents for palliation. His research interest is in the use of minimally invasive techniques to decrease pain, improve recovery, and improve ultimate outcomes.
