Overview
Philosophy of care | I consider myself a teacher as well as a doctor. I believe it’s critically important that women understand the “why” behind the health issues they face. Although the science can sometimes be complex, I always take time to explain in simple terms what is happening to their bodies and their treatment options. The more my patients know, the more actively they can participate in their own care. | Why I entered medicine | As a child I loved science. I also wanted to help people. And I had some personal medical issues that helped me understand what it’s like to be a patient. That’s why I always knew I would become a doctor. It seemed like the perfect combination of my interests and experience. It has been especially meaningful to be a gynecologist. I consider it a privilege to be a part of women’s lives and to be able to help them with complex medical and surgical issues. In many cases we discuss personal issues as well, and I’m honored my patients trust me with this aspect of their lives. | Personal interests | I want my patients to know I’m just like them. I am a wife, a mother of three teenaged daughters and a proud member of this community. I see my patients at the grocery store, the mall, at my children’s schools and at their sporting events. I’m at the same stage of life as my patients and face many of the same issues, both physical and personal. To relax and unwind, I enjoy spending time with family. We like to hike, bike and do other outdoor activities.
