Overview

Dr. Allan Gelber is Professor of Medicine and Deputy Director for Education and Faculty Development in the Division of Rheumatology. He holds a joint appointment in the Department of Epidemiology at the Bloomberg School of Public Health and is Associate Faculty at the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology, and Clinical Research. Dr. Gelber is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and received both his MPH and PhD degrees (the latter in Clinical Investigation) at the Bloomberg School. He pursued internship and residency training in internal medicine at Duke University and then undertook his fellowship training in rheumatology at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Gelber has had an active role as an Educator in the Rheumatic Diseases. He previously served as Fellowship Program Director at Johns Hopkins from 2001-2011. Thereafter, he shifted his primary educational focus from rheumatology fellows to medical students, and to internal medicine housestaff on the Bayview and Johns Hopkins campuses. He directs the Musculoskeletal Section of the Genes-to-Society Course to the 2nd year medical school class. Currently, Dr. Gelber serves as Thayer Firm Faculty Leader of the Osler Medical Training Program. and among the Aliki Scholars at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Dr. Gelber chairs the M.D. Admissions Committee at the School of Medicine.
