Overview

I am a board-certified neurosurgeon serving patients at Duke Raleigh Hospital, where I began practicing following the completion of my service in the U.S. Army. During my military career, I was privileged to care for service members and their families in both deployed settings and major military hospitals, while also working at leading academic institutions. I bring this diverse experience to Duke, combining a mission-driven mindset with a commitment to excellence in neurosurgical care. My practice includes the full range of cranial and spinal procedures (minimally invasive, endoscopic, robotic, and open), with particular focus on meningiomas, degenerative spine conditions, trigeminal neuralgia, and metastatic disease involving the brain and spine. I believe in tailoring treatment plans to each patient's unique circumstances, integrating advanced surgical techniques with compassionate, individualized care. My goal is always to achieve the best possible outcomes while preserving function and enhancing quality of life. I am honored to serve the Wake County community in this next chapter of my career. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities with my wonderful wife and three children.

As a Neurosurgeon with fellowship training in Spine Surgery, I have dedicated my professional life to treating patients with spine disorders. These include spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, scoliosis, herniated discs and spine tumors. I incorporate minimally-invasive spine (MIS) techniques whenever appropriate to minimize pain and length of stay, yet not compromise on achieving the goals of surgery, which is ultimately to get you back to the quality of life you once enjoyed. I was drawn to medicine and neurosurgery for the unique ability to incorporate the latest in technology and neuroscience to making patients better. I will treat you and your loved ones with the same kind of care I would want my loved ones to be treated with. In addition to my clinical practice, I will be working with Duke Bioengineers and Neurobiologists on important basic and translational questions surrounding spinal cord injuries (SCI), which we hope to bring to clinical relevance. I am a neurosurgeon and researcher who focuses on surgical solutions for movement disorders and pain due to cancer, prior nerve injury, stroke, failed back surgery, limb amputation, trigeminal neuralgia and other causes. I have always been fascinated by how the brain and spinal cord works, converting a thought in your mind to a physical action or feeling. As a neurosurgeon, I get to treat people who have problems with this process. Every day, I get to help patients make dramatic improvements in their quality of life, which is greatly rewarding. At Duke, we’re lucky to have access to the latest technologies and world-class research. Our technology allows us to perform surgeries in the least invasive, most precise ways possible. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three young boys. Dr. Lad is rated as a Distinguished provider by MediFind in the treatment of Epidural Hematoma. His top areas of expertise are Spinal Stenosis, Chronic Pain, Parkinson's Disease, Laminectomy, and Deep Brain Stimulation.
