Dr. Marc Mandel

Marc Mandel, MD, FACS, is a surgeon specializing in general surgery, breast surgery, and surgical oncology with Atlantic Health Partners (AHP). Board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, he has more than 35 years of experience evaluating, diagnosing and performing surgical procedures and has specialized experience in general and oncologic surgery of the breast, abdomen, skin and soft tissue as well as complex hernia repair. He is dedicated to providing compassionate, personalized care to each patient and is an active participant in the tumor boards at Overlook Medical Center.Dr. Mandel obtained a BA in biochemistry and studio fine arts from Brandeis University and subsequently received a master’s in physiology from Georgetown University. He earned his MD at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his surgical residency at Yale University where he served as the administrative chief resident.Remaining at Yale as academic faculty, Dr. Mandel was an assistant professor of surgery and acting chief of trauma during the Gulf War. He also had a joint appointment in the division of surgical oncology where he was mentored by several prominent oncologic surgeons in a variety of disciplines, among them breast, gastrointestinal, and pancreatic surgery. Dr. Mandel has held important leadership roles during his career and is currently the director of surgical education and chief, division of general surgery in addition to other significant roles. Dr. Mandel prides himself as a surgical educator and was awarded Surgical Teacher of the Year at Columbia University Medical Center. He was honored by the American Cancer Society at the Diamond Ball in 2017 and was a National Award winner as Cancer Liaison by the America College of Surgeons in 2024. Dr. Mandel has been a constant on most Top Doctor lists for 20 years.Dr. Mandel is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncologists and was an early member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. In keeping with his training as an academic surgeon, he has been clinical faculty at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons, as a clinical assistant professor of surgery since 1992. He is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
