I am a specialist who is fellowship-trained and board-certified in maternal-fetal medicine and medical genetics. This allows me to be uniquely qualified to care for women and their fetuses in fetal ultrasound, genetic counseling, and prenatal diagnosis. I enjoy helping families sort through this increasingly complicated area. Fetal ultrasound examinations usually bring good news and joy to families, but sometimes we discover abnormalities which require a thorough and thoughtful approach. Each family is different and we adjust our approach to each family’s individual concerns and belief system. I decided to pursue a career in obstetrics after observing a delivery during my first week of obstetrics training in medical school. Every day I feel privileged to be a part of this very personal experience for so many women. As a researcher in the areas of infectious diseases in pregnancy, I see it as my duty to help advance the care of women and their fetuses who may experience infectious complications. I hope to leave a mark on our field that leads to improved infectious disease outcomes for women and their children. I moved to the Chapel Hill area after many years of living and practicing in Rhode Island because of the outstanding group of physicians here.
