"Philosophy of care | I grew up in a small Pennsylvania coal region town where everyone knew each other. I also come from a big family. My mom is one of 10 siblings with 6 sisters, and my dad was one of 4 children. We grew up in a lovely house that my parents built. We always knew we were loved and cared for. How does this relate to being a physician? It means I've grown up seeing love and hard work. I care for my patients as I'd want my family members to be treated. I believe it's important to listen to your patients. I want to know who they are outside of lab studies and test results. I try to avoid asking general questions but instead I ask deeper questions to understand where my patients are coming from and what their lives are really like. I've also suffered loss in my life. I lost my dad when I was young and we lost our first baby at 14 weeks. I truly believe these two tragic events have made me a better doctor. I can relate. When I was young I thought I would become a teacher. But as I grew up I realized that I could do a great deal to help women in need by becoming a physician. | Personal interests | I love spending time with my family. I have two kids and they are my whole world. Family is very important to me and I spend as much time as possible with my extended family. I am a runner.
