Dr. Jonathan Cohen
Overview
Jonathan Cohen is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, and fellowships in gastroenterology at UCLA, and advanced endoscopy at The Wellesley Hospital in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Cohen was Clinical Professor of Medicine at NYU School of Medicine since 2006, joining the full-time faculty as a Professor of Medicine at Northwell/Hofstra in 2024. He has worked as gastroenterologist and performed general and advanced endoscopy at Northwell Vanguard Gastroenterology with expertise in ERCP, colonoscopy, endoscopic resection of large polyps, ablation of tumors and Barrett's esophagus, weight management and endoscopic bariatric therapy. For each of the past 24 years, he has been named to the Castle Connolly Best Doctors list.Dr. Cohen the current Treasurer of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy [ASGE] and will be the organization's President in 2027-8. He served as past Chairman of the ASGE Training Committee and the Quality Assurance in Endoscopy Committee. He is also the current Director of the Program for Endoscopic Teachers of the World Endoscopy Organization. Dr. Cohen served as President of the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in 2004. Dr. Cohen has authored numerous articles and has made many presentations at scientific meetings both in the U.S and abroad. He has edited three textbooks in his field: Successful Training in Endoscopy Endoscopy Past Present and Future: NYSGE at 50and Comprehensive Atlas of High-Resolution Endoscopy and Narrowband Imaging, a volume which has been translated into 4 languages and sold worldwide. Dr. Cohen is recognized by his colleagues around the world as an expert on quality indicators in gastroenterology, as well as simulator training and advanced imaging technologies in the early diagnosis of GI cancers. A sought after national and international lecturer, Dr. Cohen has also directed over 50 training courses in his fields of expertise to groups of doctors in many countries and throughout North America. He currently serves as Director of Innovation and Sustainability in the Northwell GI service line.

Dr. Andrawes currently serves as Director of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, and Director of the Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Fellowship program at Staten Island University Hospital. His commitment to patient care and education is exceptional, as demonstrated by his dedication to training medical students, residents, GI fellows, and advanced endoscopy fellows. He is among a select group of gastroenterologists proficient in these advanced techniques. In 2019, he established the advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship, which has graduated four fellows to date and is fully subscribed through 2025. As a dedicated educator and key clinical faculty member for the GI fellowship program, Dr. Andrawes consistently receives exemplary evaluations from trainees. He has successfully recruited two highly skilled advanced endoscopists, further enhancing the nationally recognized GI division. Dr. Andrawes thought leadership is evident in his research presentations at national meetings and his consistent promotion of scholarly activity among colleagues and fellows.
