I was born and raised in the Lehigh Valley and attended Lafayette College. | Why I entered medicine | My father is a physician, and I feel it is a wonderfully exciting and challenging profession - made even better by the outcome of improving the lives of people in our own community. | Community involvement | The Lehigh Valley and this community is my home. I was born, raised and completed my medical training here. I am on the board of Allentown Symphony Hall. I am involved with Easter Seals in support of children with cleft palates. | Personal interests | I enjoy spending time with my three girls, and cross training to help maintain my fitness and health. My ultimate goal is their happiness. | Why I entered medicine | I knew I wanted to become a plastic and reconstructive surgeon when I read the book “The Work of Human Hands.” It’s about a pediatric surgeon in Boston and tells the stories of the children and families he helped throughout his career. I shared the physician’s desire to help people and make a real difference in their lives. | Community involvement | I volunteer with surgical missions as part of the organization Healing the Children. I visit third-world countries to care for children with cleft lip and cleft palate. I also care for our community as a member of our Bariatric Support Group and Multidisciplinary Breast Disease Management Team. | Personal interests | In my free time, I enjoy coaching my children’s sports teams, golfing, fly-fishing and reading. Philosophy of care | My goal is to provide the best care possible to you and other patients in need. | Why I entered medicine | Since age 4, I knew I wanted to be a doctor. As a child growing up in Avoca, I idolized my father, Bill Blomain, MD, a family practitioner. I often accompanied him on house calls. It’s like I was imprinted with medicine. I’ve known richer doctors, smarter doctors and more famous doctors, but no one who cared more about his patients than my father. He loved his patients and they loved him. I strive to be like that. | Community involvement | I teach and proctor several medical students. I also will take on high school and college students who are considering medicine. I donate to several charities. I also participate in Race for the Cure, with a donation and table set up every year to support all of those affected by breast cancer − and in particular patients of mine. | Personal interests | Most of all I love spending free time with my family. I also enjoy boating. Medicine is a personal interest of mine as well, because I truly feel I have not worked a day in my life. I love what I do.
