I grew up in Durham and I am extremely proud to work here at Duke. All of my family members still call the Bull City home. Most of my education was completed in Durham, except for four years I spent down the road in Chapel Hill. I played football there and developed an interest in orthopaedic surgery that led me home. I specialize in hip and knee replacement and am very fortunate to do so. We have the ability to help so many people with these operations. It is extremely rewarding to help someone get back to doing the things they want to do with their life. Duke is the kind of place where you are challenged by the most difficult cases weekly and I appreciate that fact. We have great doctors in every field and we work as a team on every aspect of a patient's care once they enter the hospital. Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center Arringdon
I am an adult reconstruction surgeon here at Duke. I completed graduate school and residency training at Wake Forest University, followed by a fellowship in adult reconstruction at Duke. My choice to pursue a career in adult reconstruction was based on my passion for patient outcomes. I was truly inspired by patients’ satisfaction and the drastic improvement on their quality of life after total joint replacement. I enjoy the systematic approach to problem solving and the complexity of cases in adult reconstruction, especially in the setting of revision arthroplasty. My clinical and research interests are centered around periprosthetic joint infections, a disastrous complication which continues to pose a challenge to the orthopaedic community. Despite the progress made, our goal to prevent infection following arthroplasty surgery remains unaccomplished. It is not an exaggeration to claim that fear of infection lives in the heart of every arthroplasty surgeon who steps into the operating room. My mission is to provide a personalized assessment and treat each patient individually, based upon their condition and needs. Dr. Seyler is rated as an Elite provider by MediFind in Hip Replacement. Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center
I am an orthopaedic surgeon and do total hip replacements, total knee replacements, knee arthroscopy, shoulder arthroscopy, and orthopaedic trauma. We normally start with non-operative treatments, which are fairly low-risk. When those fail, then surgery becomes the only or best option. I like that orthopaedics can take patients who are debilitated, in a great deal of pain, frequently can’t sleep at night, and restore a great deal of function and improve their quality of life. It’s incredibly rewarding. Duke has a great deal of expertise and there are very few things you can’t get addressed here and in the best manner possible. We offer excellence in the orthopaedic programs we offer. Dr. Stanley is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in Hip Replacement. Over time, my practice has evolved into a mixture of caring for injury-related conditions and degenerative conditions. My practice now focuses on the care and treatment of conditions of the hip. In the past 10 years, I have had the opportunity to gain extensive experience in hip arthroscopic techniques. I treat fractures and dislocations of the hip and pelvis, osteotomy for dysplasia and deformity of the hip, and arthroscopy of sports and degenerative injuries of the hip. I perform hip replacement when it is indicated. I was born and raised in Missouri. As a boy, I worked in my father's service station. Neither of my parents attended college, and I am the first person in my family to enter the medical field. The values of hard work and commitment to continual personal improvement are lessons from my youth. I began my practice at Duke in 2000. Duke Cancer Center
As an orthopedic oncologist, I treat cancers of the bone and muscle. My background is very different from most doctors. I started as a veterinarian and became interested in cancer because so many dogs have cancer, and I came to medical school to learn how to treat and beat some of these types of cancer. I’m still a veterinarian, and that’s a big part of what we do here. Many cancers of the bone and muscles, called sarcomas, are rare in people, but common in dogs. So continuing to treat dogs with this type of cancer lets us and our group gain a deeper understanding of how these cancers work. With my patients, I try to find out what the cancer has taken from them, and what their goals are for how to get back in control. For some, their goal is to beat the cancer no matter what. For others, the goal is to keep walking or to be able to walk again, or to be in less pain. Then we try to tailor our approach to the patient. Often, people think being a surgical oncologist must be a terrible job. But I find something in each patient to admire, because patients dealing with cancer develop a strength the rest of us don’t get to have. Dr. Eward is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in Hip Replacement. His top areas of expertise are Adult Soft Tissue Sarcoma, Bone Tumor, Desmoid Tumor, Hip Replacement, and Bone Graft.
