Ever since I was an undergraduate at Duke, I have been interested in women's lives, and specifically how reproductive health plays a central role in a woman's quality of life. I am passionate about providing high quality and patient-centered care to women at all stages of their lives. I strive to work with women to make health care decisions that will be best for them. My clinical specialty areas are cervical cancer prevention, management of vulvar, vaginal and cervical pre-cancers, family planning, but I have experience with all aspects of gynecologic care. I left Durham after college to train in New York and then San Francisco. My family and I moved back to the area in September 2016, and we are excited to rejoin the Duke community.  I am excited to show my two children all of the parts of North Carolina that have made it so special to me. I am an obstetrician and gynecologist. I mostly see patients along with OB-GYN residents, in my role as an educator. We see patients in the benign gynecology clinic in Duke Clinic and we also see patients offsite, mostly in area health departments. A lot of times we take care of women who don’t have a lot of resources or who have already exhausted resources and they are coming to Duke because we are their only option. I decided at a very young age that I wanted to become an obstetrician. I was 7 when I watched my own mother go through pregnancy and became fascinated with pregnancy and birth. I started telling everyone “I’m going to deliver babies when I grow up.” As I went through medical school, my draw to the specialty confirmed what I'd felt from a very young age. One of the many reasons I love working at Duke is we are always well-equipped to deal with any emergencies which can arise unexpectedly. While most deliveries do not require any interventions, I am happy we can offer anything needed on a moment’s notice. In addition to taking care of pregnant patients, I enjoy taking care of adolescent women who are transitioning into adulthood. I also enjoy caring for perimenopausal patients and menopausal patients. I am happy to offer in office procedures, such as essure tubal ligation, which is a great option for women whom have completed childbearing. In addition, I enjoy surgical procedures in the operating room when surgery is required to treat an issue that cannot be managed with medication. Listening to a patient's concerns, thoughts, and fears allows me to tailor my care to the individual and her specific needs. Whether I am providing obstetrical care, preventative and problem based gynecologic care, solutions for chronic and acute pelvic pain, or having discussions regarding advanced surgical interventions, the most important element is putting my patient's needs first. I am fortunate that I can form life-long relationships with patients from adolesence through menopause, and help them navigate their journey by being supportive and keeping them in good health.
